My squire vintage modified pbass. It felt like it was built just for me. And the build quality is on par with a mia pbass.

I just picked up a used Vintage V4 for £100 and it's one of the nicest P basses I've ever played. Even new they are insane quality for the money. Great Wilkinson pickup which is quite hot and heavy duty hardware including brass saddles on the bridge.

Peavey Koa 4-string RSB. $350 years ago. Still have it even though I have boutique and custom made basses

Got one of those Wilkinson bridges on my American Special Jazz btw, really nice bridge.
I have a Schecter Raiden PJ that has the nicest neck I've ever played on a 4 string. I need to sell it, but I wish I could just keep that beautiful neck...
Used, it is impossible to answer that question because there are so many great deals if you look. Pressed, I guess I would say a Yamaha BB405 or 605, they are very nice basses that can be had for very little money, often under $300. New, I think the best deal is the Squier Affinity J-bass V. This is a stupid good five string for under $200 new! I currently have a Squier VM Jazz V that I got used for $150, this bass is mind-blowingly good! It seriously compares favorably to $1,000+ production Jazz basses in terms of sound. The feel of the neck is comparable too.
I have an SX Basthat was $125 dollars and I just love it! Looking to invest in a newer and great bass for cheap so any suggestions?

Well I can't rant on and on enough about my Modern Player JB for $500. With the frets removed, it's the ultimate jazz bass period, not only just an El Cheapo made in China JB. Even with the frets, it sounds better than any JB made by FMIC. Without them it just comes alive.

It's definitely a jazz bass sound but with more punch due to the humbuckers.
So that's my vote for the ultimate cheap bass. This one is what the jazz bass should have always been, pickup-wise...

Beatle bass copy from Sam Ash "Carlo Robelli" - light, short scale, flats. Easy to play and all low end.
About $250 if I remember right.

Squier VM P - $280 new
Was setup almost exactly how I like it right out of the box when I got it in 2010, and it's still like that. All I had to do was change the stock strings to GHS Precision flats and I haven't had to touch the setup at all. Sounds, feels, and looks teriffic.
