Your Favorite Basslines...

It's an odd thing, really. I can like some very simple lines because they go to songs that I think are awesome. So I like the bass line to "Band on the Run" for that reason.

I guess "Red Barchetta" is a favorite because I've never forgotten it. I also have never forgotten "Roundabout."

I love to listen to McCartney's bass lines in the mid to late era Beatles, but I haven't had occasion to learn many of them. I did learn "Nowhere Man" "Drive My Car" "In My Life" and "Dear Prudence" but I think it'd be more fun to play "Something".

"Come Together" is so simple and sounds so good.

I really like "the Passenger" by Iggy Pop. It's really only one riff the whole way through but it really makes the song. I like playing Rudie Can't Fail by the Clash off their London Calling album. Welcome to the Jungle is really fun, as are Roundabout by Yes and pretty much every Rush bassline, haha. Right now I'm playing Digital Man a lot. And Hump de Bump, Charlie, Police Station and Look Around by RHCP. I could go on for ages but I won't, haha

Duran Duran - 1st album through Notorious - can't go wrong.

I was jamming to No Doubt's version of It's my Life and really digging it. He does a lot of stuff I don't normally do.

+1 on the GnR OP. Yeah, he plays with a pick and sort of like a guitar player come bass player but Duff is cool. Chunky, in the pocket, and cool. Did I already say that? They tune a half step down IIRC - that burns my goose having to re-tune just to jam along! Maybe I should buy another bass for that reason...

Peaches by The Stranglers has a catchy bass line, as do a number of their songs, JJ is one of my faves :bassist:

I love Crossroads by Cream, practically a guitar solo on bass, in fact, my guitarist hands the solo duty to me on this song as he cant play it LOL

Squeezebox by The Who is nice .

Heart Of The Sunrise - Yes Chris Squire
Tightrope - SRV Tommy Shannon
New Word Man - Rush Gary Lee Weinrib
NIB - Black Sabbath Geezer Butler
Mayor Of Simpleton - XTC Colin Moulding
Another One Bites The Dust - Queen John Deacon
Under Pressure - Queen John Deacon
Penny Lane - The Beatles Sir Paul

I like the bass part in 'Baby Baby' by Amy Grant. It's a synth, I think, but that's the kind of stuff I like.
Most stuff that John McVie plys is cool, even though it's not complicated, such as 'Go Your Own Way'. Many more.
