Steve Hillage Live Herald version of Donovan's Hurdy Gurdy Man

I played this a lot with the lights out, just the green glow from the record deck, cliché
As a straight(ish) cover, I love this as much as it also annoys me. I tried to play the bass for Hyperactive as a teenager in 1983, broke knuckles, then read it was a sequence on a Fairlight CMI and gave up. Not only does "David Earwicker" play it well, he also appears to do the guitar and vocals on this cover, the git.

EWF's cover of the Beatles' 'Got to get you into My life' is an incr double take on that tune.
Three stand out for me.....in no particular order:
1. All Along The Watchtower......Jimi...even Dylan was in awe
2. Gimme Shelter......Grand Funk Railroad....the track should always have sounded like that
3. This Flight Tonight.....Nazareth...…...the song needed that drive
God yes, that brass line, absolutely perfect. A great song improved.
Jason & The Scorchers' hard-rocking cover of John Denver's "Take Me Home (Country Roads)" is one of my favorites. It totally rips. A few years ago, a band on a bill with mine covered this version, thinking nobody in the audience would know its origins. I liked their shocked expressions when I said I was a huge Jason fan.
Two of my other favorites are incredible dub reggae covers of entire albums, done by the Easy Star All Stars: Dub Side of the Moon (DSOM, obviously) and Radiodread (OK Computer). I absolutely love both of these. Their version of Sgt. Pepper's interesting, but isn't as good because the tracks don't translate as well into reggae.

A breathtaking rendition of Tim Buckley's etherial classic...
Way before The Eurythmics and synthesizers, Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart were in a short-lived new wave/power pop outfit, The Tourists, who had a modest UK hit with this old Dusty Springfield staple...
The late Kirsty Maccoll was a great songwriter, and got covered herself, but I always preferred her version of this to the Smiths; but, to be fair, Johnny Marr is playing on this as well. It also didn't hurt that the producer was Steve Lillywhite(her husband at the time)...
I don't know how Siouxie and crew made this more psychedelic, but they did; neither better or worse than the original, just a different take on the tune...
Now, let's make this about me; this was a band I was in, mid-90's, originally called Hex. An unusual source song, it was ironic that it was picked by the singer as my parents used to play the South Pacific soundtrack all the time(Dad served in the area)when I was a little kid, so, yeah, I was on board for this one(actually recorded in '93). Perfect song for fretless...

), considering that it's not particularly obscure. personally love when a band takes a uber-known song and make it their own. This is exactly what Tori Amos did here. Chills... chills all the way.
A similar thing is done here by Streetlight Manifesto, which manage to keep Radiohead's Just both true to the original and to their own personality. This is a super fun one.
I also love Joss Stone take on the White Stripes. This one grooves like crazy (am I mistaken or was it recorded with The Roots?)
