I use D'Addarios exclusively. I use the Chromes on my ABG FL, and I like the Nickels on my 5 strings and fretted basses.
I've tried the half rounds, and for while I liked them, but as I grew as a player, I found that they are just a little too middle of the road. Hard to get that grunt that you get from rounds and can't quite get the smoothness of the flats.
OMG! Agree so much. These strings are just fine, but wayyyy to expensive!NYXL's are rad, I would only play them if they were cheaper.
Pro Steel.
That's their best qualities that keeps D'Addarios the best selling strings in the world. I happen to like EXL-170BTs best of the XL series. Also the D'Addario made Fenders are excellent too. I have moved on to the new GHS Balanced Nickels.XL nickels here. Been using them for years. Consistent, sound great, are cheap, last a while, and you can get them anywhere.
That's the road I was headed down if we didn't get the endorsement deal (ghs balanced nickels). I have heard good things. May still try a set, but obviously need to make D'Addario my main strings for cost reasons. That's their best qualities that keeps D'Addarios the best selling strings in the world.
