Your favorite D'Addario Strings

I use D'Addarios exclusively. I use the Chromes on my ABG FL, and I like the Nickels on my 5 strings and fretted basses.

I've tried the half rounds, and for while I liked them, but as I grew as a player, I found that they are just a little too middle of the road. Hard to get that grunt that you get from rounds and can't quite get the smoothness of the flats.

That's exactly the purpose of the half rounds. I like them just because of that, smooth and mellow, but not to much and a little bright but without exaggerating and no "zing". Perfect.

I used XLs on my guitars for the last 10+ years and naturally used the bass strings too, then moved to Chromes our of brand loyalty until recently dumping them for Rotosounds.

Surely, even with a limited sponsorship, you can ask them to send sample sets of any that catch your attention to work out which you want to settle on?

That's their best qualities that keeps D'Addarios the best selling strings in the world. I happen to like EXL-170BTs best of the XL series. Also the D'Addario made Fenders are excellent too. I have moved on to the new GHS Balanced Nickels.
That's the road I was headed down if we didn't get the endorsement deal (ghs balanced nickels). I have heard good things. May still try a set, but obviously need to make D'Addario my main strings for cost reasons.
