I have the new version of the Dunwich, slightly modded with the low knob set lower similar to John_k and Fuzzlord’s HM2s. It sounds pretty amazing, much tubier than other HM2s I’ve tried. The “MAX” setting on it is a gimmick at best for bassists, but it’s kind of fun; still, if you pick one up I imagine you’ll probably want to stick to the normal mode.

Do you ever use the clean blend? Not sure I would.

Was playing around with a Death By Audio fuzz War today. Sounded terrific if you can get past the crazy volume jump :roflmao: Totally kills the civil war/russian big muff sound IMO.

I wouldn't know about playing it solid state, but through a tube amp (ampeg v4b) it absolutely slays

I have been thinking about purchasing the amptweaker bass tight metal jr. once again. I do miss it. otherwise, my next purchase would be either the darkglass microtubes x or the alpha omicron.

Glad to hear this. I owned/started Rabbit Hole FX and the Chaosmic Fuzz was my first offering. It’s named after my band, in fact. I’m no longer involved in Rabbit Hole FX, but I’m still happy to hear that a fellow bassist has tried one. It was a labor of love.

As of right now it would have to be the Black Russian Big Muff with a Boss PW-2 before it. I wasn't really sold on the Black Russian until I included the PW-2 and messed with my amp's EQ a bit. Ended up with a bigger and fuzzier tone depending on how much I crank the "fat" knob with a bit of drive.

Mountainking Heavy Machine beat out many contenders for a "lead bass" sound: TAFM, Mooer FOG, Mastotron, Brassmaster/Diabolik (this was great but had overload issues related to my pickups), Magnetar, Amptweaker TightMetal, W&C Pickle Pie B, Supercollider, Hoof, more I can't remember. The gate on the HM rules, and I can get another very usable sound just by rolling down my bass' volume.
But beyond that, a good Green Russian Muff is hard to beat, and better suited than the HM for heavy "rhythm bass"
