Yep. The first name that came to my mind when I saw this thread. He's the first one to make me want to play bass!

If he hadn't been mentioned, it would probably be because the people who clicked on this thread hadn't heard of him, for to know him is to love him!

Forgot Raphael Saadiq on his latest album smokin!
I agree, two big players who influence me that I forgot to state. Raphael, and Jr., both great players, neither are acclaimed outside the bass player world for their music.
I mean, Raphael and the Meters both have decent/great careers, but not what I think they deserve.

All good choices but I definitely have to second Andy Hess. Amazing player. I also think Dave Hope of Kansas should be mentioned. He is definitely one of my favourites.

I dont understand how you cannot like Pino. I mean, no offense, but John died, and rest his soul.. The Who cant just stop because of it, that would ruin the band and the fan base.
Pino didnt replace John, he simply played in his spot and memory.

Dont use the generalization of "kids" around these parts. I probably no more about funk, and musical roots, than most guys twice my age.
