view by 'Riddims' and then sort by 'Tunes' then 'Listen'... greatest riddims, in a sortable list! amazing.. even shows all the 'versions' for each riddim!
And yeah, "bass lovers dream" for sure Reggae is. BTW, great comments FromTheBassMent! "Robbie plays the spaces better than just about any bass player I can think of." This idea of 'playing the spaces' is so true. How you don't play is just as important as how you do play.
Check Robbie @ a Bitty McLean rehearsal.. schooling the guitarist on how to do a proper 'skank' lol ..so many times I see guitarists underestimate the skank technique and they mess it up

It sure is.
The bass is not just the link between rhythm and melody - it IS the rhythm and melody. And at the same time it has the most freedom to move.

I'm a big fan of Rocksteady (c. 1966 -1968) and early Reggae (1968-1972). I like the Wailers in this time and definitely the Studio One output of this period.
I'm starting to get more into the Roots Reggae ('70s) era, and feeling my way through.
But here are some faves from the earlier time mentioned:

Well I had the pleasure to go to Jamaica three years ago and let me tell ya, I heard some of the best reggae I have ever heard or maybe it was the aroma of the herbs I was smelling but my all time favorite reggea song is by Mr. Marley himself "Natural Mystic"..... I got to check out Bob's mausoleum while there and got to walk around the farm that he grew up on and also got to meet his mother... Great Times!!!!!!!!
He's actually from The Ivory Coast in Africa but I agree with you about Jamaica's musical out. Jah Houphouet is a great song....
Yes, that's right. There is a different feel with a lot of the reggae that comes out of West Africa (versus Jamaica) and I kind of like that. I got into Alpha Blondy at the same time as I was discovering the productions of Junjo Lawes and it was interesting comparing the two sounds.
Some other songs to check out by Alpha Blondy are:

If you ever get a chance to see Alpha live, do it. Definitely one of the best shows I've ever seen. The man performs with utter conviction.
I'm glad you think so! How are you making out with some of the other suggestions posted here in this thread? Anything you're digging in particular (might help for further suggestions)?
I like Gregory Isaacs and Steel Pulse... basically 90% of what you posted in post #2 is excellent. I like the old school stuff... not so much the dancey dub stuff.
