Your help needed: dating a Hofner 500/1

Dear all,

I hope you can assist. I acquired an old looking Hofner bass 500/1 but I hardly know anything about those instruments. The guy that sold it to me did not have a clue either.

From what I read on the internet, this bass could be a 1992 reissue. The official Hofner website indicates "From 1986 up to 1999 The Hofner instruments received new serial numbers with six digits: The first digit means the year of manufacture, the second and third the month, the fourth and fifth the day, the sixth is the number of the guitar made this day."

The serial number of the bass, which is on the back of the headstock reads 262073. If I follow the above info from Hofner, it would mean that the bass is dating from 1992, 62nd month of the year. Since I always assumed there were only 12 months for every given year, I feel deeply confused.

The back of the headstock also sports a sticker that says "Genuine Hofner Original, made in Germany". The logo on the headstock is raised golden logo. Finally, both pot codes read 250 K LG AB CTS 7923

Also included is a picture of the case, which doesn't look very 90's to me (but I could be wrong) and it could be unoriginal to the bass.

What are your view on the matter?
