Your Last Gig

These discussions are making me think of my grandfather who very recently passed at the ripe old of age of 91.

He was a lifelong musician, both a signer and a guitar player. I wonder if he ever thought about the last gig he got to play before he was too sick to play out anymore. He played nearly to the bitter end though. Just under a week before he left us he got a burst of energy, grabbed his guitar, went down to the communal gazebo that was at the extended care facility and played a bunch of tunes for the residents and family that was present. Shortly thereafter he had to be put into a medically induced coma and then passed.

I like to think I'll also go the same way. Playing music until I'm literally unable to anymore.

Can't see me playing if I dont have an outlet.
Its all about the live moment for me.
My biggest concern is my hearing which is so key.
Have no problems standing for 2 hrs with 9 to 10lbs on my shoulder.
But yep, you never know when things night change and I'm not wasting anymore time on 'what am I doing here' gigs.

Saturday...royally rubbish gig which makes you doubt a few things, but a great gig yesterday put that one away.
Thankfully I won't take dates with that saturday band again.

I'm nearing the point of retiring from gigging. At this point, though, I'm kinda on the fence with what to do with all my gear. It's a hassle selling amps due to shipping expenses and boxing. Basses and guitars, not so much. But still there's a lot to let go of.
