i don't recall askingI just can't imagine that looking cool.
we do a little rockabilly, yes, but it's not our main thing.Do you play for a rockabilly band or something? (That's the only situation in which I've seen some use "stunts on the upright"

i learned a new stunt on the upright...laying down with the body on my chest, i pluck the strings and use my foot on the neck to change the pitch. looks cool as all getout, but getting out of it gracefully and quickly is still a bit of a challenge.
yeah, well, i still haven't reconciled getting up quickly without a possible hospital trip, so i don't think i'll be doing it onstage any time soon. i have plenty of other stunts i can do, though. i probably shouldn't do them because blake doesn't like them, but our fans seem to dig it, and even though blake's opinion is real super important, i have to go with what our fans like.Gotta tip my hat to you, Jimmy! If I tried that with an upright I'd probably land in the hospital for a couple of days!![]()

it's cool...i realize upright stunts are a little controversial. even some rockabilly players are dead set against them. but i don't care.Hey, I wasn't trying to say anything against bass stunts, they're cool in the right context, they're not my thing, but any bassist should feel free to do whatever with their instrument that they like. Be it standing on it or playing with their feet or whatever it may be.
of course i'm not joking! i do upright stunts at our band gigs. the one thing i don't do is stand on it, though. i'm too fat and the endpin is the wrong kind for standing on it. besides, i don't know if i should really be standing on a 135 year old carved upright. i should probably get something cheaper for that, like maybe a juzek of some sort.
ok, that was a joke...it's an upton plywood bass made 6 years ago.
