a tux, shades and lots of chewing gum LOL
chewing gum? sorry, but i see people chewing gum onstage and i wonder if they realize they're onstage. our keyboard player used to chew gum onstage all open mouthed and he'd smack gum in his mic with his mouth all wide open and irritate the crap out of me. gross. i used to beg him not to do it and he'd still do it. finally he quit chewing gum altogether a month ago...sweet relief!

when i bandlead (i don't in that band), i always make gum chewers spit it out. very unprofessional and distracting imho.

i was in hawaii and had a really bad cold. combined with the crazy humidity, i can't breathe through my nose. i saw a video of me playing and my mouth was literally hanging open the entire time. i looked ridiculous. then i noticed that i tended to have my mouth open while i played fairly often. solution: i started chewing gum while i played. my mouth had to be closed, otherwise it'd fall out. i totally get you, but in my case, it broke me of a bad habit that was probably the worse of two evils

That gum chewing for some is a look, particularly for the harder Pop Rock Bands.I admit it's really old school and might be a dated look but it is a look. Jeff Beck (Guitar Icon) always chewed gum on stage, we thought it was cool. Oh well, I do it, I think it makes me apear younger than my true age.

^^^^ I hate gum too Jimmy, but recently I bought DVD of Level 42, and Mark King chewed gum all the way through the video....go to wo. I'm guessing it was nicotene chewy or some stress relief type gum. Any way, if Mark can do it, it can't be THAT bad? Can it?

Good point, as I mentioned early in some cases it brings you an old school cool factor look.My case was Jeff Beck.

hey, i used to see john lennon hisself chew gum onstage. but i find it reaaly distracting. it's all i can see onstage when someone does it. i guess if you guys are working and you chew gum, i can't say a thing about it, but that's my opinion.

Dude, I think John Lennon gets a pass, regardless of what he did on stage. Remember, he used to come on stage in Hamburg with a toilet seat around his neck.

btw, Morello don't buy into your "Wear a shirt onstage" theory. ;)

you guys are making me sick with all the shirtless guys and gum chewers! listen, do what you want, but if you do it at a show i'm at, i'm going to the bar and ignoring you till you're gone ;)

C'mon Jimmy we just want to be cool. Chewing gum makes us seem probably cooler than we are. And anyway,if your in a hot rock band you are required to be cool by law in some states.

Thats what i thing:hyper:

I gotta agree. If you have a beer gut that looks like a bag of cottage cheese, put on a shirt. I went to a Green Day show a couple years ago and the bass player for the opening band was fat and sloppy and shirtless. It was kinda gross watching his belly fat jiggle while he was playing. :help:
