Your Look On Stage

Here is one with my new band from a recent gig.

...
I have a picture that still sticks in my mind--a concert review in Rolling Stone of the Eagles from the Hotel California era. Glenn Frey and Don Felder are both wearing those old generic, shapeless sports jerseys. Maybe they had the southwestern look very early on, but I'll bet that Hotel California tour did pretty well.

Those were the guys who, at the time, were sitting on the best-selling album of all time (their Greatest Hits package). I will happily except from my comments anyone else with multi-platinum records already under their belt.

Of course they are going to dress up for a promo pic. That's different from playing live.

Here's a live pic from the 70's

As far as image goes, and how many guys will say "It doesn't matter if the music is good"...to a point, yeah, you're right.

But on the other hand, how many of the general populous says..."I'm going to hear a band tonight"? They don't!

They say "I'm going to see a band tonight."

Image, style, fashion, or whatever you want to call it goes a long way in separating yourself from the average garage band.

Just like you say that you're going to play a show tonight, not music. And that's what it is, a show. Entertainment.

If you wear suits for work or whatever, you can wear one that needs cleaning anyway to a gig. Then it doesn't matter how soaked it gets.

Linen helps a lot in the heat, but wrinkles quickly. The best I found for stage is a linen/wool blend suit with a partially lined jacket (no lining on most of the back).
I only wear a suit about two weeks out of the year for work, we otherwise have a very casual office. And the suits I have right now are fairly nice (Brooks Brothers) and completely wool, so I would rather not gig in them. But thanks for the tip on material!

Yep. I ran across another shot where half of'em are shirtless, but it wasn't a live shot so I didn't post it.

Also, that Greatest Hits album was hardly the biggest seller of all-time at that time. Other albums of the era sold a lot faster when they came out (Frampton Comes Alive, Boston, etc.). The Eagles' album achieved that status by being a remarkably steady seller for 30+ years.
