Your main bass, and why?

My main bass is my Dingwall AB1.
Beautiful, versatile and unbelievably light.

Main is a Warwick 'Vette double bucker, with the backup being my old Gould GBW. Both in standard tuning. The warwick has a gorgeous tone (especially played acoustically), is incredibly easy to play and fits me like a glove. My one quibble being the MEC pickups which have pretty uneven string volume...though looking at SGD's project for some Wal-esque pickups in a MM casing, I could have that sorted in the near future :)

And the Gould GBW has been through the wars but is still a very nice thing to play.

I've recently discovered after trying countless basses (and keeping them...I get too attached!) that to find my favourite bass I've have come full circle back to the first decent bass I ever owned. An Ibanez Musician. After buying the following:

Guild B301-a
Wilkes Half-fretted
Lag 5 string
Ibanez Musician fretless '85
Fender Jazz '72
Fender Jazz '77
James Trussart "rust-o-matic"
Breedlove Atlas ABJ25/CM 4

Basses I've sold recently
'84 MM Stingray
Status Groove bass
Aria pro II

I love(d) them all dearly (and wish I never sold the stingray). But everything I want in a bass is perfectly built by the musician. Ebony board, thru-neck, 3-band active EQ. It's heavy but still balanced perfectly. It's build quality is outstanding (even the lacquer is still good and flake free). It's a beautiful chunk of wood. The tone and sustain is even across the board and that, to me, is most important as I prefer to play without compression, whenever possible, in my rig. All the other basses above would have sweet spots and dull notes (all but the trussart and musician). The Ibanez would sing beautifully with solid tone and with sweet overtones.

If anyone ever has about £300 and doesn't need to MOT their car etc...Seek one out and get one. They really are awesome!

Though it was a long-winded way of saying "go back to your original bass, and old gear, and show it some love. You might have got it right the first time!"

German win? Hm, tis a wood I have never heard of. But ebony... ;)

I have band practice tonight in Pittsburgh, and Im taking the P. Its incredible that I used it in church this morning for simple root note quarter notes, and tonight Ill use it from everything from Fleetwood Mac to White Stripes. Its a trooper.

Here ya go:
Fender Precision + Flats + ashtrays (or bridge cover) and tugbar = The epitome of a classic.

IMO, of course.

My main gigging bass for the past 3 years has been my white Marcus Miller Jazz 4. It's been all over the U.S. and some very select international gigs, definitely has its share of bumps and bruises. It's got an Aguilar OBP 1 pre and Nordie split coils. I also slapped some Hipshot lollipops on it. Most pics and videos of me playing i have this bass strapped on. If i need a 5ver i've been favoring my USA Jazz 5 in inca silver; however i just restrung and setup my 96 Warwick Corvette 4 active-great bass! I have a feeling I'll be using it to make some money the next couple weeks! I missed it!
