My main bass is the OLP MM2, upgraded with a SD SMB-4A pickup and a SD STC-3M3 preamp. I also installed a Hipshot D-tuner so I can downtune that E string to D at the flick of a lever.
I've had many other basses, still have a few, some a lot cheaper (really!), some more expensive like Warwicks (I had two simultaneously a Corvette STD and a Corvette $$, I love them). But this is the bass I play at home and gig with. It just feels and sounds right to me, and I like the fact that it didn't cost a lot. I had to level the frets when I bought it (second hand) and get a new nut, but structurally that was it.
I liked it so much, that my backup bass (when I do take one) is another OLP MM2. This one still has stock electronics, but I have an Aguilar OBP-3 and another SD SMB-4A pickup for it.
I have three other basses at the moment. One is a Warwick Corvette $$, which gets little action outside the house.
I played it a lot with a band I recently quit, blues/funk/hip-hop mix. I have an old Ibanez SR400 with flatwounds, which I also played on that band and I only use when I want the old-style "thud" of the flatwounds.
The third bass is a very very cheap Wesley Monarch, which turned out to be very very nice. I changed pickups and installed a 3-band preamp and it's delicious. But I go to the OLPs first. This picture is from before I changed pickups and added preamp.
On my current only band, I use the two OLPs. I am nominally in another band after they had a reshuffle and needed a bass player. I play the Warwick there, but so far we are not gigging. My backup there will probably be the Wesley, just because it'll be a crime not to use it live and the OLPs get enough action. This second band does not require much slapping (which is something I love the OLPs for) so I'll stick with the warwick (serious thick deep growl, and the Wesley).
