This 1984 Aria RSB standard. This one's not mine but exactly the same.

i have two P-basses that are pickup-location correct, and of course, they sound like P-basses, naturally. my PJs don't sound like P-basses, but i'm never going for that anyway as they do their own thing and i play them for what they are (versatile) --- i don't even go for that P-bass sound when i'm playing my P-basses...it just shows up! so it's like: play the cards you're dealt!
but for real P-bass flavor, whether i want it or not, i use these:

these axes are so very nice to play. comfort city. after a while, i don't even notice that they're Ps
I like the straight grain on the Purple PG one...what type of wood is that?
it's paulownia (also called empress), it's a glarry p-bass body (they call it "burlywood" for it's color, and they label it "basswood" --- which it's not).
from the www:
"Grain/Texture: Grain is generally straight, with a coarse, uneven texture. Very large pores give Paulownia a striped, porous look."
anyway, i like it because it's uber lightweight. that ax weighs 6 lbs.!
I played this Schecter P5 today, and I cannot imagine a better P-bass.
I have La Bella DTFs on it and yes, it’s can get thumpy but so does the one with the Big Split.

Did you read the OP? It explains it all for me.
As for the others, some them Im sure do have a Pbass . Others I'm sure prefer something different. Im glad there are so many options out there as opposed to when Leo made the first Pbass.
A Rickenbacker 4000 was my first nice bass! I still miss it.
I have five of them currently and one on order...so yeah, I'm pretty obsessed with them!

I know that feeling. Nothing compares to when you find a builder and it almost like they build things just for your own personal taste .
I used to see people with a collection of ThunderBirds, Rickenbackers, Jazz basses, or Precisions and think myself,"why so many of the same thing?'.
But now I get it.
I just bought a Jazz neck for my Am Vintage Hot Rod P/J, I grew up with a P bass with a Jazz neck but I get it.
It was mainly a joke, but the OP said he let it go because it wasn't a five string. I put J necks on mine.
