Your Pbass that isn't a Pbass.

Closest I got to a P....

My G&L L1000 is basically what I reach for if Im looking for p bass tones. Ya know the way a modern pop producer would dial in a bigger than real life P bass tone for a slick modern pop/nu-disco hit? Yeah, the L-1000 is basically like that when it’s raw and ready to track. It’s the “pre mixed p bass” already in the bass.

Of course, Leo designed it to be exactly that- the final iteration of the p bass with all the improvements he discovered over the years after he made the original.

I'll post just before I go to bed and enjoy this thread tomorrow.

My Ibanez SR755NTF is it (stock photo) - it does my J duties too and gets that '80s Aria SB tone (the bridge pickup has been replaced with a Nordy Big Split). Ironically, I just bought a beautiful Pbass to go with it even though buying another bass was something I really didn't ever expect to or need to do. They are different enough that I love them both.

my jazz basses with the neck pickup solo'd sounds very very P-esque. I am not the first person to figure this out.

+1 pretty much
IME, The difference can be quite subtle and I bet in a mix or recording would be near impossible to discern other than a trained ear using high-end speakers/headphones/IEMs. In-person, the Jazz, even set up properly, tends to snarl while the P bass tends to grunt. In a recording/mix, good luck for the average listener hearing a difference. Add effects like chorus, flange, distortion and then all bets are off hearing a difference.
