Your precious instruments - to sell or pass them down?

I have intentions of being buried with whichever is my "prized" instrument at the time. Other than that, one or two will be left to my sister (who plays bass), and the rest to anyone else in the family to do whatever they please with.

My kids don't play but my nephew does so I want to leave my '71 Fender P to him (he actually borrowed it for several years when I was not playing). My kids can decide if they want to give him the rest of my basses and rig, etc. but he should get that one, which I have owned since '76. It is the only possession that I really care what happens to it.

My wife laughs and says she's going to bury me with at least one of them. In reality I'm the recipient of several family heirlooms, some valuable - some not valuable other than from a historical perspective. The reason I say this is that I was trusted to pass these to future generations by the people before me. Some I can delicately use making sure I don't harm them, others are on display or locked away. If your kids are old enough to understand the importance of these to you then they may understand that their kids may someday enjoy them.
