Your Retirement Dream Bass?

I retired 16 years ago and was offered my choice for a retirement gift. I got a MIM P Bass in sunburst which I've since sold. I'm happy with a Squier Mini P as my main bass now.

Congrats on your (comfortable) retirement! I did the same 7 years ago and am still loving every minute.

I did not get a retirement bass, but I did get a Mike Lull M4V for my 50th birthday and I've played the heck out of it for 17 years. It always makes me smile. Well worth considering on of Lull's basses.

Around three years ago, I accidentally found a Gibson EB3 on reverb.com (I was looking for something else), and, on a whim, I bought it.

It's exactly like the one my mother bought me in 1970 (that I had to sell a few years later to pay college tuition):

Back then it seemed every big-name rock bassist played a Gibson, but nowadays, when I play a gig here in Slovenia, young musicians come up to me and say "what the heck is that?!?"

If all works out (fingers crossed), my retirement dream bass will have been in my possession for 25'ish years already when I retire. I figured it's better to get the dream bass early, so I have the last shreds of my rapidly fading youth playing it and when it's time to retire from the work force, I'll have a slightly relic'ed version of that bass.

Or just get a new Fender American Professional II Precision Bass and play that one exclusively.

OP- based on the styles of music you play, my choice would be in the Lakland USA or Sadowsky USA range. My experience is that both these lines have the most stable and resonant necks of any "F" style bolt-on I've ever played.

If I had a "substantial amount of money to spend" as the OP says, I'll buy a P and a Jazz both Fender custom shop, an Ampeg SVT Pro 3 head with a Fridge, a few effect pedals and beer.
