I wanted a lefty Fender Roscoe Beck, but they never made nor offered one. So, I had a luthier from Seattle build me something - passive PJ, Nordies, 36.5" scale, stacked tone/vol, mahogany body, carbon fiber/maple sandwich neck, etc. I am very happy with it.

Man check out a dingwall super p. Best instrument I've ever played period. Weighs a little over 7 lbs. The super p's aren't as extended as the combustion counterpart and they play amazing. Low action small frets. Do it!

In recent years, my tastes have run to the P or P/J sound and light weight and playability are huge factors.

Could I add a few more grand to that total? My retirement bass or dream bass is a Wal Mk I. Either Geddy's specs or a dark blue with a nice top and black hardware. I won't be picky.

I made it a couple of years back, love it!

I stayed with the used Jazz I got for a high school graduation present in 1972.

To this day, it's still my main gigging bass.

Finally getting her broke-in just like I like!

If ANY bass is considered, I'd want a 5 string DB.
If only bass guitars are considered...and since I don't dream about any bass, I'd
go for a G&L L-2500 fretless, or a fretless Fender 5string jazz.
Bass guitars are pretty much all the same to me. The strings are more important to
me than any specific "dream" bass.

6/30 is my date as well.

I'm keeping it "low-key" though - nothing special to mark the occasion, mostly because I picked up my "holy-grail bass last August, when it appeared before me - by fate - just before a milestone b-day.
Otherwise, I'd be on a vintage hunt to mark the occasion.
If that's not a priority for you though, off the top of my head, I'd look at an Olinto or Coppola.

I will be heading there in July and doing a bass safari.

That's definitely the way to go - especially now that you'll have the time...

I have it. A Jaguar H with 32-inch scale, re-wired '62 P-style with Labella flats. I'm retiring soon also. My fingers have arthritis and I can't play full scale anymore. See my posts in the Funk Machine thread. Lightweight, great tone out of the stock pickup, good sustain and intonation with the upgraded bridge.

place in life. I bought a 1954 P-Bass. I gig with it all the time. It's the "one"!

Got my 60 p around 7 grand last year. Nice slab board, had it plekked. If you want a P bass tone the slab board 59-62’s are the way to go.

I agree. I like early 1950's too. I have 1954 P and a 1963 P. I'm not worthy, but in my defense I gig with them
