I am so jealous. I tried to get my band to do a rocking version of "Ride my Seesaw," and the did such a half-ass, haphazard job I knew it would never get past rehearsals. I still say if you played that song like you meant it, (another contender being Amboy Dukes "Journey to the Center of Your Mind") that people would just LOVE it, but we may never know.

It's been a while since I was in a cover band, but we used to get lots of love for an almost metal version of "Steppin Stone" by The Monkees. We started doing it as a joke, but it got lots more love than it deserved. Should not have worked *at all*

Way, way back one band I played in did a cover of Suicide is Painless, the Mash theme song. It started as a joke, but soon
developed into a full blown cover that for some reason people really looked forward to towards the end of the night. We never
could figure that one out.

on the night before two young aussie drug couriers (Barlow and Chambers) were to be hanged in a Singapore prison we dedicated The Stranglers "Hanging Around" to them, crowd went bonkers,always did to that song. Pretty simple and basic,maybe that's why?

who said rock bands had taste hehe

In my case that wouldn't be too hard. I'd love to put together a radiohead tribute band (just think it wouldn't sell that well around here) and I would still never never play that song. I'd rather play "there there" twice instead. Maybe three times :smug:

my cover band #1 where I do keys plays sweet's "fox on the run" which I'd never heard before joining the band. People love that one.
but I'm really baffled by marshall tucker band "can't you see." we do the harmonies very nicely and some nights we jump it up into double time really well and it gels. But people still holler for it on nights when we don't care for it at all.

In my new band (where I'm playing bass!!) we'll be doing the go-go's "our lips are sealed" and it better go over well because for some reason I'm 100% in love with that song right now.

Peter Frampton "Do You Feel Like We do" exactly like the live version on "Frampton Comes Alive". People start screaming as soon as they hear the opening guitar riff. It's such a recognizable song, and the album was issued to you if you lived in the suburbs according to Wayne's World ;)

Seriously, that's very popular classic song that everybody remembers but it seems like nobody plays it. Wasn't it a bigger hit than any Beatles song in the year it was released?

Hell, I'd expect it go over well even if you are a death metal band or an electro house DJ.
