Your thoughts about Yamaha TRBX 504.

I had two of the 505's. First on had issue so I had it replaced and the other one had issues as well. Loved everything about them but both of them had strange preamp issues. First one the preamp was very weak, especially with the bass knob. When I finally got a chance to compare it to another one I could tell a big difference without even having them side by side. Second bass the pre was closer to normal except it had some intermittent popping sounds that weren't really noticeable when playing in a band context, but you could easily hear it when playing alone etc. All that said I had the chance to get a 3rd one but I started looking elsewhere. Without the preamp issues I experienced (and I'm the only one who I've heard of having any issues) I would have easily kept that bass and gigged it regularly. The weight, neck, fit and finish were all great in my book. I still own my 305 and it's a solid bass as well. There are plenty of videos out there of the 504/505 to check out and here is a little sound clip I did with mine before moving on.

Thank you! Do you think it will be good for metal and some jazzy things? I like the sound, but everyone is telling me that in this price range there are better basses and this sounds, sorry for this word, poopy. I don't know what to think

I played a 505, last week. As mentioned, the weight is good, the balance is good. Fretwork is good.

However, the sound from the pickups was really generic and uninteresting. I was not expecting this, because the main feature of the 504/505 are the alnico dual coil pickups. In my opinion, the 304/5 is a better buy. The pickups are more interesting and everything else is basically the same-----for less money. I would also suggest the Yamaha BB 424/424x. They sound pretty darn good, have a lot more character. I immediately felt more expressive when playing the BB; compared to either of the TRBX.
