on the design and pickup possibilities for my custom build would be appreciated. I may start this weekend.

For the wood I would like it to be a little brighter than mahogany. I'm open for suggestions, and am not against using some form of mahogany either.

3 pick-ups: Humbucker at the neck, p-bass in the middle, and jazz at the bridge. Not sure of the brands. Suggestions?

Electronics: Can I do this? A "stacked" knob with a volume and a tone for each pickup, so there can be seamless blend and you can choose from any pickup at any time.

Scale: 32" would be nice, I think. Split the difference between my Jazz and the eb0.

I appreciate your input.

Cool design, reminds me of a Spector. You may have a hard time fitting all three pups between the neck and bridge with a 32" scale. And forget about slapping that one well mostly the popping part. Cool none the less!

yeah your spaing is a little questionable, why so many pups in the first place? I have cs pj config that is designed for the studio cat, it gets any tone you'll ever need. nothing against a bucker but its not really needed. the only real problem i see is your balancing. to properly balance a bass your top horn needs to go at least to the 12th fret, yours only gets to the 14th, result its going to be a bit awkward to yeild, just a tip. stack knobs are great idea, i rock em whenever possible, bit pricey though and your going to need a hell of a preamp! and some wiring skills.

Yeah, I havn't discussed with my luthier, so I don't know if we can fit the PUs. I hope so, though.

It would not be for pop or slap. I get in trouble with basses I can pop and slap. I have no control over my technique when playing a Jazz or something. I want to emulate closer my eb0, so I dont mind the way the low dominates the rock groove.

OK, after 2 weeks of pup discovery and review (along with the help of you guys) I have decided on the following for my custom build.

NECK: 32" scale (I'm very comfortable with the 30 1/2" scale of the eb0, but want to eliminate some of the "honk"). Cosmetically I still don't know about the fretboard, but I'm thinking maybe ebony as the hardware will likely be black.

PUPS: DiMarzio Ultra Jazz at the bridge, Model One at the neck. (Not going to try the three pup config I was so adament about).

BODY: Mahogany because I like the tone the ebo produces. I may go with a dense piece of wood to get a little more highs.
The shape is still kind of TBD. And the color, paint style, too. I'm kind of thinking a greenburst with some subtle graphics.

BRIDGE: A Badass model II or a Schaller rolling bridge. Jury still out. Any advise, experience?

TUNERS: Gotoh mini tuners.

So thar she blows for now. I've already started the CAD and am still debating about the shapes, but as for the hardware and electronics, I've made up my mind.

I really like the headstock of the first one. The less Fendery, the better. If you're building your own unique bass, why make it look like every other one out there?

I also like how the bottom of the first body looks very flat and wide, and quickly rounds over for a more bell-shaped bottom, as opposed to a broader, rounder bottom of the second design.

Thanks for your thoughts. The more I look at the 2nd design it looks really Jaggy/Fenderish. The first one looks a bit Ric, but definately more subtle and the similarities are purely coincidental.

What's funny is that the inspiration for both came from the Jag-shaped Charvel Surfcaster, actual surfboard fins (for the horns) and my wifes ass of 5 years ago.

I'm diggin' the 1st design today, but am not so sure I won't consider going back to the board and trying an amalgamation of the two designs before I commit.

G! The first horn reminds me of a wave rushing over. I like the "movement". I'm thinking of a blue/white paint scheme, reminescent of some cool speed boat design or something. Kind of like the Gibson SG GTs, but not the skunk stripes neccessarily.

Might be cool to stain the outer sides of the body and paint the middle. Hmm...

Here's the paint scheme. Inspired by surfing and loose stroke "Shag" art, I think it creates a cool illusion of shapes.
I want to put a super glossy layer over the body and headstock so the color always looks "wet". And I would like to leave the back of the neck w/o gloss, cuz I like the way that feels. I'm thinking I will NOT gloss in a wide oval shape in the places on the back of the neck where my thumb passes. (most of the back of the neck).
