You're in the band???

I used to happen to me at one place in particular. Even this T shirt didn't solve the problem!

That photo is just beggin' for a photoshop!

I've been stopped a few times or denied drinks at the bar but nothing really worth retelling - usually just a quick explanation that yes, I am in the band.

But a few months ago we were playing a gig in a bar which was a decent drive away (Ripon, CA for anyone who knows it) and during a break I was outside talking to a couple women (one really cute, one getting there with every beer) I'd seen from the stage. The conversation (word for word) went like this:

Me: So, are you having a a good time?
Girl 1: Yeah, this band ****ing rocks
Girl 2: Yeah, they're really good.
Girl 1 (talking to her friend): And the bass player is hot

Me:  then  then :atoz: as I slowly realized that they weren't being coy or even teasing me a bit. They REALLY didn't realize that I was the bass player.

And I heard the other guys starting into one of the two or three songs with no bass for the first bit - their way of telling me I'm taking too long on break - and had to rush in to go play.

After that set - the girls were gone.

Just confirms what we already knew. Apparently our sexiness goes up several notches when playing bass.

Well most of the bar owners and bartenders in my area know me by now but some of the patrons crack me up.

The other day I'm at one of the bars I play regularly watching the baseball game. I go out for a smoke and hear this lady talking about one of the bands I'm in. She sees me and says hello but does she recognize me? No. She's been to several of our gigs and I've met her multiple times. I stand outside smoking and listening to her just gushing over the singer/guitard whose name is the band's name (quick sidenote: I hate band names that are just one member's name. What the hell kind of BAND is that?!). I can almost guarantee she doesn't know anyone else in the band except him. I chuckled, finished my smoke and went back inside without saying a word.
