YYZ on Upright Bass - Ray Brown

He got some serious upright prog chops that Ray Brown!

Who would have known.

Love his style too!

Doing the robot never gets old, and he does it like no other I ever seen before, keeping his cool the entire duration of the track making it look all easy-peasy as if he could do it just as amazingly well upside down in a headstand.

Respect to Ray Brown!

That man knows where it's at.

I've seen a couple of these and thought, "Okay, now, I know what to expect," but this one surprised me with the way it interspersed live footage (and audio!) from different performances of Ray Brown, who really did have some chops!

I don't know how hard it is to put these together, but whoever is doing it is doing meticulous work and, I suspect, really digs Ray -- even though he's lampooning him a bit, here, I see it as a kind of tribute, too (at least that's the way it comes across to me).

Incidentally, I think this would be a good video from which to learn the tune - the bass line is super clear and you have the visual of Ray's fingerboard (though fingerings would be different).

Agreed, and having the double bass sound makes the bass even more distinct. It's a cool .... whatever it is. Check the guy's other videos, he's done a lot of interesting takes. I can't imagine how much time it must take to put this together.
