Zon Model Question

Well, heck, I better get on the phone to Zon right now! You can't beat a big puddle of drool!

Basically, I would be looking to pair some of the tone I get from my Alembics with the convenience of the composite neck. I would prefer even a shorter scale for my stubby fingers, but the neck feel of Sonus basses has been just outstanding for me. I doubt Joe would go into custom scale lengths as the hassles with doing that on composite necks can be significant. My "regular" Sonus sounds very much like an old Jazz bass with a maple board. I'd like something with a fuller bottom to it, though, and that would be my vision for this bass.

Seriously, though, I will be contacting them to see what they think.

Just so you know I believe Zon would put in any varialbe preamps you want(at least Aguilars, Bartolini, and their own ZP series)

I have a custom 5 on order with a Aguilar OBP-3 coming in April, that option was not on the website bass builder so im glad i asked when i had the bass ordered.

who knows what else they would offer..

Good info, thanks! I would ask him to use Alembic electronics, which I think are the best in the business, but I think it would be really pricey. Probably, it would cost me about $1K for the electronics package, I'll have to ask Alembic. I think a perfect setup for me would be dual preamps, each with a volume, concentric bass/treble, and concentric mid frequency select/(boost/cut). As I write something so complex, I also remember that I almost always ran my Sonus set flat and just spun the pickup blend to select a tone.

Maybe consider one of their wood neck models? Kinda' blows out the composite "pluses", but at the same time, I'd bet that'd soften the tone like yer sayin', tho. Also, I doubt the top material does much on these basses, but my redwood top'd Sonus (gear page below) has tons of bottom to it!! Keep havin' to wipe the drool off the top horn and everything...

I paid $1,700 for this one a couple years ago. It's a Sonus, but clearly not what you're hearing about.
