Hi Talkbass! First Post!!! Woohooo!
Question: Which set of Zon? bass strings (Nickel or Stainless) has/had the black silks? I really like the sound of these strings and I am looking for a new set but I don't know if they are nickel or stainless.
Background:
I bought a fretless Zon bass in 2009ish from Jong at Jive Sound and really liked the strings that were on it. I am assuming they were stock Zon strings. They were roundwound and I was afraid they would eat up the fretboard, so I installed a set of TI flatwounds. I moved the Zon? strings over to my ESP LTD F-204, and it came life! It has the best sounding (to my ears) E-string of any of my basses. I wanted to get a set to try on my Warmoth P-bass build, which seems to hate flatwounds (gasp!) I tried the DR legends and the Fender flatwounds with the green silks and the E-string sounds dull and lifeless. I am deeply hoping that it's not an issue with the neck or body wood not responding to the lower frequencies. (Even though I think it is; I changed the bridge, turners, pickups, and it all sounds the same.) So, in an effort to continue my denile, I'm going on a string binge!
Thanks!
