I tried to use the Guitar Edit software but the cable I have will only charge, it's not compatible for interface.
Which cable do I need for computer interface ? The manual is not clear on this point.
What is the difference between a usb-midi cable and a micro-b usb cable ? The manual lists both but does not say which is needed to use the editing software.
Thanks

Ha! I did the same thing. Just grabbed a usb cable I had laying on my desk - not thinking that it's one that came with a charger cube ( doesn't have all the wires in the cable - only power and ground ). After grabbing the right cable, this thing is great to edit patches on the computer. The Dark OD through an SVT amp model is a powerful sound.....

Hello, first let me state that I'm really new at all of this, just picked up the bass and thinking of getting a multi-effect pedal.
I'm considering between a used Zoom b3 (not the n version) or a new Zoom B1 Four, What do you guys think?, Which one would you go for?. I'm really interested in the Wooten patches in the b3, but I know it limits you to only 3 effects or something like that, and don't know if a similar sound is attainable on the b1 four...

I just got mine yesterday and I'm working my way through all the effects and things - but one thing that is driving me mad is that the tuner is not silent when engaged. Is there a setting I'm missing? I would prefer to be muted when in tuning mode (like both the B3 and MS-60B that I own).

Edit: Nevermind, I found out it is possible - should have read more of the Quick Start Guide. :D

Can any current owner of the B1 Four please confirm if all the amp models only use one effect slot? On the B3n some amp models use two slots by themselves. ( so you can end up using up three effects slots just for an amp and cabinet simulator. )

How would one check this? How was it able to be checked on the B3n?

You'll have to forgive my lack of experience with the B3n ( I only owned the B3 and MS-60B) prior to the B1-Four.

I know that in the Guitar Lab software that comes with the B1 Four, it will show you exactly what percentage of CPU each effect or amp sim, cab sim, etc uses. But until you go combining all your desired effects into a patch, you won't be able to tell if you will exceed be exceeding your maximum slot number number of effects in that patch If you do exceed the "limit", the unit will notify you. Is this the kind of information you're looking for - or am I way off, lol? If so, I can also show you a list of ALL the Amp sims on the B1 Four and their respective CPU draw.

While we're on the subject of CPU draw with the B1 Four effects, I sorted the effects by Power Used.

Here's the Top 10 (well, 9 in the screenshot) CPU power users in the B1 Four.

Hey thanks for your reply. In one of the modes of operation of the b1 four it shows you miniature pictures of all the effects in your patch right? Pick any patch that shows five different effects. Then edit that patch and see if you can change the selected amp to every available amp model. If so then each available amp model must only take up one slot right?
Anyway on the B3n if you select some of the amp models their parameters span two lcd windows (which shows you they use up two effects slots)

I see what you're asking. A lot of the factory patches with amp sims are 4-effects, but I found a handful of factory patches that had Amp models along with Cab sims in them and with 5-full effects in the patch. I had no Overflow Error when changing the factory Amp sim in the patch to ANY of the other amp sims.

However, as an experiment to test my "cumulative" theory - I started filling up an empty slot with mutiple instances of HD Hall (high definition Reverb effect that uses almost 30% CPU power). After about the 3 or 4th instance of the HD Hall effect, the unit could not add another instance of HD Hall. Instead, displayed the "Process Overflow Change Effect".

For those like me (who've not had a B3n or seen this message before), it essentially means hey dummy, you've used too much CPU power with your doomsday patch of awesomeness, how about selecting a lighter effect - can I interest you in a nice tremolo effect perhaps?

You can still cycle through the effects looking for a "lighter" one that the B1-Four will allow you to use. It will tell you which ones can be added with the remaining memory left because the error message goes away from the screen when you land on an effect that can still be added with whatever amount of memory is free. That said, I've yet to encounter the Process Overflow message while building my own patches.

So I guess the answer is a little bit of both - I guess technically, the Amp sims are all 1-slot, but it really is all about the cumulative stacking of which exact effects and how much CPU all of them use.

I have a question for you Zoom B1 Four users (just got mine). Is there a battery meter? The manual says something about setting the right kind of batteries so that it can accurately measure time left but I do not see any mention of a meter that tells you how much time or % battery is left.

Hmm I'm not aware of a visual battery meter? I just took a peek at the B1x manual and it says it will indicate "BT" when the batteries are low. Maybe the B1 Four has something similar. I'm afraid I use mine with an adapter or USB.
Happy holidays,
