Hello guys,
So I've been messing around with the B3 today and I came up with a patch tailored for the song "R U Mine?" by Arctic Monkeys. It sounds great through my headphones, which I made it for, so it may take some tweaking (with particular attention to the Mix Value on the Bassman model and ZNR level*) for live use through a PA set or speakers and power amp, or for recording.
1) ZNR:
THRSH: 15
DETCT: GtrIn
Level:100
As you can tell, I took Charlie C's settings and used it to quiet down my bass signal. Check out his thread "Zoom B3 As Preamp Part 2" for juicy knowledge on the effect plus more!
*You may want to back down the Level Parameter if you have a high output bass, so that your signal doesn't sound like a beehive.
2) OverDrive:
Gain: 10
Tone: 40
Level: 25
Balance: 50
I have chosen this effect based off of his SkyChord Truck Loud Overdrive, which I believe is used on this song. I tried to get the drive to sound like it does in the isolated bass track of the song, which is on YouTube somewhere...do a simple search for "R U Mine? isolated bass" and it should come up in the results.
3) B-Man (Bassman Amp Sim)
Bass: -1
Mid: -1
Treble: 0
Mid Frequency: 800Hz
Gain: 15
Level: 75
Deep: Off
Cab: 8x10 AG (Ampeg)
Mix: 50
Total:
Level: 100
Balance:100
Global:
Level: 100
I used the Bassman sim as I remember hearing on the Internet that Nick O' Malley uses a Bassman amp head in the studio. He uses a full Ampeg rig live, so in order to get close to to the studio tone, I used the Bassman head with an Ampeg cab, as I presume he uses the same cab live as he does in the studio, seeing as he never mentioned he had a Bassman cabinet. The Mix value may need adjusting because of what I mentioned above, but this should be fairly decent at mimicking the bass tone through some good headphones.
Hope you enjoy and I don't mean to derail the thread, but if you wish the learn the song accurately, Songsterr has, what I believe to be a spot on transcription, in line with the isolated bass track.
Enjoy! I shall post my "Do I Wanna Know?" patch soon.
