Zoom B6

If it does, I didn't get it when I bought mine 6 months ago. There was also nothing in the packaging claiming it does. I didn't read anyone saying so either. And Zoom doesn't mention anything about it on their site. But different stores may offer additional software as part of the deal. So it could be shop dependant.

I think I read about in a review of the B6 somewhere. I’m not particularly bothered about it, but if it was free I would have had a play around.

I’ve done a factory reset of my B6, going to start afresh now that I’m a bit more up to speed with it. The SVT Drive is still my favourite preset at the moment, however it’s disappointing that with the patch’s 1073 Preamp, SVT amp and IR module it takes up 98% of the patch memory so there’s no room for any other effects or a send & return module.

B6 came in yesterday. Got to mess with it through my QSC 12.2 this morning. Great sounds in there, just going to take a lot of dialing in.
I set up a board with SVT, cabsim, overdrive, chorus, and compressor and got it sounding pretty decent. Going to be a lot of fun, and who knows, I may get it to the point I’ll use it on an ampless gig.

The only question so far is with the DIs. Is there any way to adjust the volume on those? Very low. Way lower than what I can get out of my patches.

As far as I know the DI’s have fixed parameters so basically they’re either on or off.

The 4 DI's are meant to be subtle. They're intended to add a subtle flavour to your sound and not meant to be a main tone shaper. You can only turn them on or off, You can't change them in any way.

Try swapping out the IR for a graphic EQ and maybe also a PEQ for LPF/HPF to taste.

The B6 has the following pitch shifting effects:

PitchSHFT
HPS
BaMnPitch
BaPlShift

Which one of these is best for doing a 1/2 step or whole step down tune? Settings?

I know the down tune ability is said to not be great and that’s my experience, but want to make sure I’m doing it right.

I saw a post somewhere saying to set up a compressor or HPF/LPF before and eq after helps and I’ll be trying that as well.

TIA

The HPS isn't really a pitch shifter in a normal sense. It adds harmony (extra notes according to the scale you're in) to the notes you're playing. So it's like a 1-finger-chord feature. Not sure how to describe it better. Maybe it can be used as a pitch shifter, but I haven't experimented with it in that way.

I use the BaMnPitch: It's monophonic, but that's fine for what I need it for. It has the least amount of artifacts and latency to my ears. The BaPiShift allows for chord playing, but I found the latency to be worse compared to the MnPitch. Pitchshft sits somewhere in between. YMMV of course.

My BaMnPitch settings:
Shift -1
Fine 4
Tone 5, but can be changed to suit your needs
Balance 100

I have an HPF (lowEQ) in front at 40 hertz. I use the BassGEQ after the shifter to add some frequencies back that got lost by the shifter and the HPF. Dial in to taste.

Hope this helps.

Oh, one last thing that may be useful. Create a loop of a few bars when you dial in your EQ settings. So much easier than playing, listening, adjusting, more playing etc.

Which is the nicest chorus on the B6? So far I’ve been rather unimpressed by all of them but would be interested to hear what is considered to be the best one?

Hard to say, it's very much a personal preference, or we'd all get the same chorus.

I don't know if I'm more easily satisfied than others, but I always find a sound that works for my purposes with these units. It's fun to experiment with different 'models' of the same effect, and sometimes I have a clear preference, but I could work with whatever. If it's got the controls necessary, I'll find something that will do the job.

They all sound pretty much the same IMHO but something seems missing/lacking, I used to like the chorus on my Boss GT-1B (and it was easy to get a good setting) and I imagined the chorus on the B6 would be equal or better than it. I’ll need to experiment more with it I guess.

I usually go for the Clone Chorus.

You can also try:
- Bass Detune
- PitchShift, set the Shift to 0, and use the Fine to detune a pitch

I have tried the Clone Chorus, I’ll give it another go and experiment some more with the settings. Chorus is my main effect so it is a bit frustrating, the last thing I want to do is to have to get a Boss chorus pedal and stick it in the effects loop as it sort of defeats the object of having the B6.

I tried a different chorus and got the settings sorted to something fairly decent and it sounded ok through my headphones at home, however at the gig on Saturday the chorus was a bit lost in the mix through my IEM’s and I wasn’t able to use it much. Same story for the defret setting I’d created, also rather disappointing in a live situation.

I created 4 new patches prior to the gig and all turned out to be disappointing live. I’m still persevering though and have tweaked them a bit. It may be that they sound ok through FOH but through my IEM’s they’re not returning a very acceptable sound at all which is affecting my playing.

I read somewhere that the B6 comes with free Cubase software, does anyone know anything about this?

For some reason, they stopped offering it with their products a while ago. I did get a copy with my R20 but that was a few months before they stopped it.

That's why it's important not to rely solely on what you create at home. At home, you create the basic tone you're after. But you tweak them during rehearsals and, if needed, during soundchecks before a show. Every rooms sounds different and may affect your sound. Same goes for the mix in the band. It'll never sound exactly the way you intended at home unless you get lucky.

As for FoH, if possible always talk to the sound engineers during the soundcheck. They don't know what tone you've created. If you say nothing, they'll assume that what comes out is what you want and focus on the mix instead.

Too bad, but oh well. It was way before I got my B6 so I can't complain. I have a daw that works the way I want it to, so I'm fine regardless. Thanks for taking the effort to find it:thumbsup:
