It's very usable for recording and live performances. you can create some unique sounds with this multi-effects processor.
Got a new Zoom thing this morning. Picked it up at local GC. The R8 multitrack recorder. Is 8 track. Has built in drum machine, track looping ability, effects for guitar and bass. Nice and small but not to small. 10"x7"x1&3/4". Extra portability via wallwart or 4 AA batteries. Got it since I was wanting a good multitrack recorder with easy transfer of reocordings to laptop. Also has 2 built in elect condenser mics for recording things like rainstorms etc. Lol. Seems like it will make for a pretty good workstudio tool overall.
Havnt messed with or even loaded the cubase lite it came with. Just the driver's for puter use. Can anyone reccomend best pay for version of cubase for basics for a total newb to things like daws? Main use would be just for recording mixer on laptop for projects. Rather then useing as a midi thing. Or would a basic version of Sonar, Ableton live, or Digital performer, be better for those who get confused easy? Thise being the other daws manual says is compatable with. Ty.

the r8, r16 and r24 are very interesting units. As far as a DAW goes just start with the Cubase LT and go from there, cubase offers upgrades at reduced cost. Learning DAWs & recording is a step at a time thing and you never stop learning.

I started with the 506, then moved up to the 506II, and now I use the B1.
To tell you the truth, I only use the B1 for whammy (2 octaves!). I much much MUCH more preferred the warmer front end, low-fi, 32 khz sounds in the 506's. The B1 is way too clean for my liking and the build quality is not too flash. Plus, the 506II is sexy as hell!

TY, so far the cd with cubase demo version of LE5 on it wont load. Maybe defective cd. I'll look for Cubase LT online later. Time for bed now.
There was a certain charm to the old 506, but I honestly cannot say I miss the lo-fi qualities.
Bassbrad. I stayed up a bit longer. Cant find a cubase lt. Do you have any idea if Fruity loops studio 8 or 9 is compatable? Cubase purchase products cost quite a bit more. I did play around with fruity loops fl studio yrs ago, basic version. From my tiny knowledge of daws fruity loops is thought to be a fairly easy to use one.
I have a zoom 506II and just 'traded up' to the 708 - mainly for the ability to have patches named on that big, bright display.
One thing I like about both pedals is the immediacy of feel and lack of latency.
what do you reckon, sell the 506 or keep it for.... er... some reason?

Never hurts to have a backup. Are there any sounds on the 506 you like that aren't on the 708?
If you like the 708 wait until you get to the B2 or B9, the sounds are much better and flexible.

Yeah I may get a B2.1u... demos look good! But the thing I'm waiting for is the bass version of this (B3?)

That would be interesting to see. a bass version of the zoom g3. I can imagine a bass version of the zoom g2.1nu(b2.1nu?). I'll bet it would more effect and amp models. and the sound quality would be more advanced. but who knows...maybe zoom will design them one day.
On another note, if you're thinking about purchasing a zoom b2.1u, I would say it's totally worth checking out. I have sound samples of the zoom b2.1u on my soundclick website. here's the link.

I use a B2 > Hartke VXL > BH500 > Avatar B410N. This set up is all I will need between whatever bass and whatever head/cab I will play through. Bloody freakin' flexible marvelous sound.
Used with a '74 Ric, an ATK750KA, a P401 (a customized bass) and a Fender Kingman A/E which absolutely kills using the "Small Church Precision" patch by slipperman.

Looks like you are thinking along the same lines as I am in this thread... the flexibility of a multi-fx plus something analogue for a bit of extra oomph?
