ZVex Wooly Mammoth alternative or clone?

I also subbed the 4.99 for a 5.1 with no problems. It really does sound amazing, and I absolutely recommend giving this build a try. I got all of my supplies from Small Bear and PedalPartsPlus. Mouser was confusing for me :hiding:

You could buy a dunlop fuzz face and mod it.

Theres a great Jazz bass thru Fuzz Face tone from ELP. I forget the album but I think Lucky Man is on it? Awesome tone anyhoo.

I have a red dunlop Fuzzface from the early 90's, it stopped working years ago. could it really be modded into a WM, this has me stoked bigtime.

I just ran across this thread yesterday after wanting to build one of these for over a year now. Never built a pedal but feel really confident in my ability to construct it, just need a little help with parts. I've read this thing over a couple times wanting to see a detailed parts list from one of the builders. I'm sure that its a bit overkill but I'm trying to order all my parts, feeling a little overwhelmed with some of these sites and the extent of what I'm looking through. Can one of you guys post a list of the exact parts?

The parts for the board are listed on the bottom of the Fuzzy Elephant schematic, which is a Veroboard/ Stripboard layout. R = resistor, C = capacitor (C3 and C4 are electrolytic caps), Q1/Q2 = transistor. The only things you need that aren't explicitly listed are the 9v adapter or battery pack, an LED and bezel for it, a 3PDT switch and input/output jacks. Oh, and solder and connecting wire :D

Just be sure to order multiples of each part just incase something happens. If you're lucky you'll have enough left over to build another one. Do a google search for "mammoth clone". There are a few extensive threads over the net on it's construction. Also, it's helpful to look up "3PDT wiring schem" as well as anything involving beginning pedal building.

How much crossover is there between the Mammoth and the fuzz side of the Orbit? What are the differences in sound?

My Mammoth clone definitely seems to be a smoother, fuller fuzz than just the fuzz in the Orbit. I mainly used the Orbit for the ring mod sounds in combination with my octave. The mammoth clone may retain the lows a little better and generally be more full sounding than the Orbit which has a sort of shimmering effect.

The problem is the buffer, not the output. You'll get the same result by putting this pedal after a buffered pedal in the signal chain as well.

Hello,

I have a question regarding the Fuzzy Elephant layout. I just completed mine and I did everything according to the layout, however my EQ control works as a volume control instead (it is reversed compared to the actual volume control). Do any of you have ideas on how to fix this?

I was bored yesterday so I pulled out the Mad Bean Sabertooth board I bought, opened the box of miscellaneous components and fired up the soldering iron. I forgot how small this board is but it's well made and laid out. Twenty one parts required less the jacks, BPS and enclosure. I wish I could get my Mac to work with Cubase so I could upload the comparisons made with a real Zvex Woolly I borrowed from a friend of mine.

Anyway, both my friend and I couldn't believe how similar it is to the "real thang. The raw, sputtering, deep, dark fuzz is all there and the Volume, EQ, Bite and Wool pots work just like the Woolly.

All in, I have roughly $22.00 invested (less enclosure) in the Sabertooth vs. the $350.00. I really can't understand all the mystic surrounding the Zvex Wooly. If you have no fabrication skills and want a simple hand painted box I guess the additional $328 is worth it, i donno. Any go to MadBean and get the board, you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Sorry to dig up a zombie thread here but in the interests of keeping everything in one place I figured I would ask here.

Looking at the above link I see a 2k2 and 4k99 resistor. What values are these supposed to be? Is this some sort of typo or are my electronics skills so rusty that this is Greek to me?

Additionally I am assuming the 220n capacitors are 200nano f; is this a valid assumption?

Last pregunta - if one were not using a LED they would just need a DPDT switch right? (Yes something wacky is happening with this build).
