Details

I have for sale only, an excellent to nearly mint condition Custom Sting '54 Precision Bass. A bass for those that do not care for the Sting neck w/ the Inlay. but love the arm and tummy contours. The bass consist of a excellent CIJ '51 Precision Neck , straight w/ low action, mounted to a beautiful, Sting 2 piece lightweight Swamp Ash Tobacco Sunburst body. On the bass is a Mint pickguard. The bass weighs ony 8.2 lbs on my digital scales. So, no back breaker here!

The pickup is a Lindy Fralin Split Coil '51 Precision Bass Pickup that growls nicely w/o the SC hum. The pickup is a favorite among TB'ers. As of now it has a Fender Precision Deluxe bridge w/ individual saddles for each string for better intonation. Fender strap locks on the bass presently.

The bass will ship in a Road Runner soft shell case that's in good condition. Also included is a '51 style Fender bridge, a Tortoise Shell pickguard and the original strap buttons.

Sorry for the less than excellent pics. There are no dings or scratches on the bass. It's just glare.

SOLD!

Sorry to ask but do you still have the original one ply white pickguard? You have a very nice bass! On eBay, I'd say you could fetch $800 or more. Good luck! Love your bass! (The Sting 12th fret marker sucks!) Your's is soooo cool!

Sorry, only have the Mint PG. Thanks for asking!

I too don't care for the Sting Inlay. No disrespect to Sting, just don't care for Inlay! I guess I'm just 'Old School'! :)

It literally hurts me that I don't have $650 laying around to send you! Very beautiful, and a creative solution to that pesky Sting inlay! :)

I wish you had the extra cash too! :) Seriously, thanks for the nice comments! I really don't want to sell it. I enjoy it every time I pick it up and Jam w/ it at home. It's a fun bass!

I play my CS Jazz 90% of the time and was looking to see what I could sell so I could have some extra cash for vacation coming up the end of next week. :hyper:

If it does not sell by the first of next week, I may just keep it and sell one of my Jazz basses instead after I come back from vacation. I could use the money, but I won't lose any sleep if does not sell soon.

It's a beautiful bass. I have one, and sold you the tort pickguard; bet that would look nice in a pic. How did you get the stinglay off?

Each new question gives ya a bump so here I got another one. Do you know the ohm winding on the Fralin split coil pickup? The stock winding is 6.5k ohm but Lindy offers windings up to 8k. You're bass is KILLING ME! I wish someone would buy it before I add it to my "squirting out the windows" bass collection! A Custom Shop version of your bass would be over 2 grand!

It also comes in a 51 reissue version sans sting scribble. See: Fender site. Dont know why they did the sig inlay at 12th fret alone--they could have at least done pearl inlays across the board like the Marcus. It just seems out of place but I'm used to it & it's set apart.
Great C neck. I love it. I'm a Precision-convert, from Jazz. It took a minute but this is one fine neck.

Actually the Tort PG does looks god on the bass. I just have so many basses w/ the Tort PG I wanted a different.

I did not take the Sting Inlay off. This is not the Sting neck. It is a CIJ '51 Reissue precision neck. One of my dearest friends that lives in Ohio and a long time precision player and collector, put this together and I got it from here a couple of years ago.

I contacted my friend told him I was looking fpr a nice precision and asked if he had something he could part with. Jim told me about this bass, sent it to me to try out for a few weeks. He said if I like it, he would sell it to me. Once I got it and played it, I had to have it.

I have too many Jazz basses and don't really it this and won't be disappointed if it does not sell. :) This is my dream '54 style pcecision and it has a great neck! Just looking for some quick cash for my upcoming (late next week) yearly cruise vacation! :hyper: If it doesn't sell, I closed the thread, and post one of my Jazz basses after I get back from vacation.:)

Man, if I didn't have a beautifully light '51 re-issue in burst,... This would be more comfortable than the slab body with out the cut away... I swapped some Seymour Duncan's in mine and a 4 saddle bridge as well...
