Thanks, dude. That thread is one of the places I convinced myself about the horizontal, but I’ve seen it elsewhere too. Could all be mythology, but humans are funny animals.Found somethiing here (frrom 2011): https://www.talkbass.com/threads/gk-800rb-vertical-power-switch.804418/#post-11425660
AI seems to agree:
Internal Components: Modern units utilize toroidal power transformers and MJ10024/25 output transistors for higher reliability and power ratings compared to the older rectangular transformers and MJ10022/23 parts.
I have the bad habit of sometimes derailing threads!!I think there was a misunderstanding. Perhaps when you've read ivory and tortoise shell, you thought we were talking about pickguards, but that was not the case. JohnMalay and I were talking about pine, which I used for my bass build, and the conversation took an unexpected turn to ancient Greek Lyre and the materials used for their construction i.e real ivory and tortoise shells.
They both take additional EQ down the line very well. Thanks for the samples!
This makes the BB seem more attractive than I'd presumed. BB more throaty, DCX stringy-er.
Which do you think plays better when there's additional EQ in the chain?
contact them throught Line, got an answer the next dayYeah, I've given up on them....been waiting almost two months now.
If it's a Dark Ray it should say it right on the headstock...No. That’s gorgeous though. My students is blonde or natural.
It doesn’t change tone when manipulated. I thought that too. But seems not
See above.
That one makes the most sense. When I see him next week I’m taking a screwdriver to it.
Correct .. don’t know where this whole AI story will bring us; it may be dangerous if not managed and controlled, but for those who approach it with a playful mindset it may be a funny tool … at least it is for me now using it from time to timeIf you use AI for music creation or image generation manipulation. It helps to be able to break things into it's parts. And then mod that into something better. Use it an idea thumbnail. I don't believe in letting AI do the whole piece.

Earlier this year I put a pair in my 2020 MIJ 70’s Heritage Jazz. Great jazz pickups.I realize this is a really old thread, but I have them in my squier 70s VM jazz bass with upgraded pots that has the normal jazz bass spacing and they sound great! IME, I found that they sound fatter and darker than the stock ones in my 2011 American Standard Jazz Bass which are definitely hotter and punchier.
I wish I didn't literally cut the head off the cab when I was young and super stupid,...but was smart enough to hold onto the head. Love it. Just bought it's big brother 420. As a cab combo with the empty stacking cab it was a ball buster at 71 lbs. to haul and really didn't sound that good, even in the lame wedding band at the time. It deserved and got a better bottom but in retrospect I would have preserved it in it's original form. Other than the brochure it's the only one I've ever seen. Also, while I still own one of the 1X15 cabs I've NEVER seen the CX-260 Combo..... must be uber-rare.
