Same here. Something about the feel of the neck, and the tone wasn't what I was after. It was a very nice bass, just not for me.

Pics would help. Upgrades may not perform any better but it may shed some headstock weight.

I probably forgot to mention that it weighs 7.5 lbs Now (hardware and preamp changes), balances relatively well, and most recently I swapped the preamp for a Trickfish IPA 3 band with a seperate tone knob, added a Hipshot A Style bridge.

I have the bad habit of sometimes derailing threads!!

I have made several solid bodys out of pine. I like to work with it and if it is a bit soft and takes some knocks and bumps in final use, so be it. As it seasons over years it sounds better and better.

They both take additional EQ down the line very well.
The BB feels like the EQ is more or less there to shape the drive tone while the DCX adds to your total tone.
I've often used the DCX on pedal boards for the EQ options alone, with the drive so low it won't drive at all.

That's the thing: The DCX can approach the drive tones from the BB.
But you can flip the switch to OD and get a much meaner sound. What I like about the DCX heavy drive is that it won't come apart in a dense band mix.
I've played in a metal band in a practice room that was far from ideal, and much too loud. In there, I could really test a drive pedal for its capabilities in a dense and loud mix. The DCX really balls up the bass in one place and keeps it there, while many other heavier drives smear the bass on top of everything, and it gets lost in the mix.

And you can also go the opposite direction and use it without drive, because the LF and HF knobs work so well. The LF adds a subtle weight that really gets you places when you run it through a capable PA, and the HF knob adds sparkle. These combine well with other EQ, just watch out that you're not bath-tubbing the life out of your signal.

Me personally, I would get a quality Passive DI box-if anything. Capo already has DI output-so you are already covered. I don’t find cab sim neccessary for bass. Passive DI box serves as a backup if anything on my pedalboard goes south. And it helps to insulate and protect my pedals. I use Broughton Proto DI.

Had one for a while and loved it but let it go cause I have too many P basses. . They are the only production basses with the fat 70's neck profile. Stick a better PU in and you've got a 1st class instrument. Great build quality too.

Correct .. don’t know where this whole AI story will bring us; it may be dangerous if not managed and controlled, but for those who approach it with a playful mindset it may be a funny tool … at least it is for me now using it from time to time

If you want to keep the price down and otherwise like your jazz basses, you could replace the pickups. Look for split coils to mimic a P sound. It's not quite the same as an actual P or PJ because of the pickup placement but it gets you about halfway there IME.

Two very nice 5ers, congrats! Given current price trends, I feel like $1,399 for the Stingray is not a half bad deal.

Like I said, this was the first time I’ve used it for an upright gig (used it for an all electric gig a few weeks ago) and it could be it just happened to sound good in this specific situation, which is why I’d like to use it on a couple more gigs just out of curiosity. I did originally intend it to just be a practice amp and “better than nothing” backup solution.

Edit: Either way, it definitely sounded better than the little Gorilla practice amp I found in a side room at the venue and had to use on a gig last week when my GK died right before the gig.

Used to hear more about Valenti basses. Maybe the Metroline filled that void? Really like his basses.

just a Jazz style bass with a mute into a warm preamp. So try some felt or a couple of hair ties on the strings.

Found one, now, from Alpaca Works "Speed And Pitch Music Player" - works nicely.

Yes. They age to a beautiful golden green shade. I put a Fender MIJ pearloid block neck on mine.
That body colour makes the pearloid blocks shine.

Earlier this year I put a pair in my 2020 MIJ 70’s Heritage Jazz. Great jazz pickups.

I wish I didn't literally cut the head off the cab when I was young and super stupid,...but was smart enough to hold onto the head. Love it. Just bought it's big brother 420. As a cab combo with the empty stacking cab it was a ball buster at 71 lbs. to haul and really didn't sound that good, even in the lame wedding band at the time. It deserved and got a better bottom but in retrospect I would have preserved it in it's original form. Other than the brochure it's the only one I've ever seen.
