Deltalite: II vs. original

Hi TB!

I'm planning to buy a set of Deltalites here on the Accessories board. Does anyone know if there's any differences between the first and second generation? Is there any way to distinguish them visually? I read that the second generation is a big step above the first, so I just want to make sure I get the right ones!

Only pic I could find that might be a version I , not sure though. Note what looks like thicker "ribs" around the magnet. And what might be a vented dustcap....hard to see though.

Make sure yours look like this. Note the "doughnut" looking magnet with the vent in the middle that's covered by a screen, and the many, thinner cooling fins around the magnet structure. The dustcap on the front will also be solid, not vent or hole in the middle.

My old thread there also contains some good info about Avatar OEM's, which look just like the stock models but spec, and sound quite different. Read through that if it is Avatar drivers you're buying.

Thanks go to BFM for that one, I'm just passing along info. I'd had those speakers for a long time before I posted that old thread and thought I did have version 1's the whole time. Was trying to make a cab using the old specs that for some reason, never sounded right.:D

Ever inspect those up close? They don't look like a classic vented dustcap that has a hole in it with a screen or felt cover but they might be like a pair of Legend series guitar speakers I have. They look normal from a distance but if you shine a light on the dustcap, you can see through it and see the coil/polepiece and stuff. Must be some airflow/venting that way.

I had a first generation 2512 in a 112 cabinet . It had a very clear midrange but almost no low end at all in the cab I had . I upgraded to the 2512 II and the cab sounded like a bass guitar cab , way better low end voicing for bass . Besides being voiced better it also will handle more low end power because the cone/voice coil have more xmas or longer travel before damage . With the first generation Deltalite I had to boost the bass EQ on my amp just to get some low end out of the cab and then still it wasn't enough to make it sound bassy . The Deltalite II already has the low end so you don't have to boost the low end on the amp and waste power . The series II doesn't quite have the open midrange of the first generation but still has very nice mids .

Like the other guys said , the Deltalite II is a way better overall speaker for bass than the first generation .
