I'm in no way affiliated with Pirastro, although I've been sent a prototype of these strings, but it was an all-metal set and they had a synthetic core one in development too.

Anyway, as long as the testers give the thumbs up to the strings, there's going to be some people buying these strings. Of course, we can expect a short lifespan, given the synthetic core and all.

Yes, I tested the all-metal prototype.
It was a really good string, somewhat similar to the Jazzers, but with a warmer tone, and very long sustain.
I've written to Adrian Muller, Pirastro's technical manager, to ask him what they'll do with these prototypes.

Where did you get $300 from?

It's Lemur Music's price!

I know a lot of violinist and cellists who say these are great. It'll be interesting to see how that carries over to the bass.

My supplier says these strings aren't shipping until June.

Moreover the selling price should be in line with most other strings.

That $300 may be a mistake or list price.

Pirastro wrote me back and said they would send me a free trial set for review, but not until production gets into full swing. They said maybe two weeks, which when dealing with American manufacturers means three months. With the Germans, though, it probably really means two weeks!

It depends on the reliability European mailing system.

My brother once sent a postcard to my family from Europe once. He came back week after he sent it. The postcard arrived 2 weeks after he came back.

Adrian Muller told me today the price tag is between $150 and 200$, so the $300 is a mistake indeed!

Francois, is it the "roll" that you don't like about the Obligatos, or something else?

Personally I'm hoping that they can come out with these before I have to buy another set of Obligatos. The ones I've got on right now have about 8 months in them, and they're sounding GREAT-which means they'll be dead in another month or so.

Yeah, the roll, but also the tone.
The G sounds very very nasal and has too much sustain on my instrument and the D is extremely (too much) thumpy.
The E is floppy and rolling.

These (the Evahs) should be out within one month I think.

Yea, I don't get it with Obligati either. I think they are weak, rolly, floppy, uncentered and get swallowed up in a mix.
