Brian Bromberg Carvin Model

So that's what a Carvin/Pedulla/Fodera hybrid looks like....

Firstly, love the color - it's what I refer to as the "Denim Blue" shade of Teal that I plan to have when the time and ca$h comes around to get my custom Mike Lull Modern 5 fretless.
As for the bass...err, third time's the charm? (Peavey, Dean, now them) I honestly think most players don't need the options that Brian has on his Basses (Graphite Neck to support changes from Metallic strings to Nylon to Piccolo and back) along with Magnetic & Piezo pickups and multiple outputs and Stereo-field panning, but this is where teaming with Carvin actually makes sense - with their business model of "Extended Options" (not quite a "Custom Shop") the customer can order the basic body and have it outfitted with however much of the "goodies" as they please. Mags but no Piezos? Sure. Jazz as opposed to Soapbar pickups? Why not? Piezos but no complicated panning circuit? Hopefully this is the way they'll be marketing the model, having learned from the failures of the previous two versions.

He owns the actual design, so whomever builds it for him, they're gonna look like this.

I saw one of the prototypes at BP Live and it was really, really easy to play. Brian played it that night at the Key Club, IIRC.

No matter who builds it, it is a gorgeous design. If it's light and you can get the SB electronics package with it, we have a winner!
There's a difference between owning your own design (and having a number made by custom builders in the '80s before hooking up with Peavey) and it being proven a failure saleswise by not one, by two separate major companies in two separate time periods - the early-to-mid '90s with Peavey and a decade later with Dean.
That being said, I'm actually a fan of both the body shape as well as all the different "functions" the older versions had and hopefully the Carvin will. If I were given the choice of a Carvin, I'd likely pick the Bromberg over the SB
(want to like it but hate the upturned upper horn :scowl: ), the Icon (if there was a bolt-on version perhaps but not a fan of neck-throughs as well) or the LBs (*decades*-old generic design...)

Personally speaking, that's the first Carvin I could see myself actually buying.
I love the ideas and concept of "Carvin" the company, but I have never been compelled enough to purchase one of their basses. I've played a few and liked them, but...
I can't say for sure I'd buy it if it was available today, but I'd very seriously consider a wide 5 version of that.

That thing looks like a toy in his hands. I guess seeing him manhandle an UBS has something to do with it.
Looks neat, and from Carvin it should have an array of options while staying affordably priced. I doubt it will have a graphite neck, I don't believe the Dean or the aborted US Masters did.
Another interesting signature bass model from Carvin for a skilled bassist unknown to the general populace whose initials are B B. They're certainly dominating that particular segment. Any others with those initials they might be looking at for future deals?

Fourth time, actually - Peavey > Dean > US Masters > Carvin
The Dean model was a great bass, but I'm not a fan of that hideous quilt coloration
