How much does your bass weigh?

Silly question, I know. My bass, for reasons I don't fully understand, seems to be the heaviest bass in Chicago. Seriously. EVERY other bass I have picked up weighs less than mine. Granted, I play a sixer, but every sixer I have picked up is no different. They all seem to weigh less.

So I ask the silly question: How much does your axe weigh?

My two heaviest are my Peavey T-40, ~13 lbs, and my Geddy Lee Jazz, ~12 lbs.

My Cirrus weighs 11.5 lbs, but it is a 6 string neck through with a large body, so that is understandable.

I have over a dozen basses but the heaviest I own is a Peavey T-40 (about 12.5lbs!) and the lightest is my Sadowsky NYC in swamp ash (just over 7lbs).

Most of my basses are in the 9lb range.

My Curbow is about 14-15 lbs., IIRC. My left shoulder came pre-toughened from playing a 30 lb. tuba in high school marching band, though.

my new Tobias Growler is 8.5 lbs
I think my Fender jazz is about 9.2 lbs
Wishbass shortscale is around 8 lbs
the custom 5 string I built out of parts is 10.8 lbs (warwick neck)

My heaviest bass is my '85 T40...13 pounds Id say... my second heaviest is my Squier VMJ...11.5... my lightest bass is my Yammy RBX200... I don't know how much it weighs but I think if I sneezed hard enough I'd send it flying...its like a piece of paper to me to be honest.... and I thought Peavey Foundations were light? Yea, until I got that Yamaha in LOL My Brownsville Bat is also super light. Its another one of those 'dont sneeze too hard or its in orbit.'

So I ask the silly question: How much does your axe weigh?

12 lbs is a heavy bass no doubt. I have a G&L L2000 that weighs 11.4lb. I also have a Bongo that is probably under 9 lbs. I play them both about the same. I don't like lifting the L2K by the neck, but once its strapped on and we're jamming, seriously, the weight is a non-issue. Got rid of 9+ lb jazz bass that had lousy balance....(real heavy headstock and tuners....light body)

My Ritter is 7.2 lbs - I know that because it says so in the certificate, I've never weighed any of my basses.

My Fodera probably weighs a bit more than that, and so does my Jazz. I guess my Precision is somewhere between the Fodera and the Ritter.

Mine range from 4lbs 2oz for an old Hofner Club bass to 14+ for an 80-ish Schecter Jazz. My Fenders range from 6lb 14oz to 9lbs 2oz.

I'm pretty much done with anything over 9 pounds, and prefer 7.5-8.5.

My lakland dj 4 weighs 9.5lbs.

I posted a thread about it recently. Alltough it seems to be a normal weight for a skyline bass (hollowbody not included). I find it not light. My former basses were a tokai jazz from 82 and a yamaha bbg4a. The Yamaha was way lighter and the tokai was a tiny bit lighter. Alltough I'm definately keeping the dj4 because it's such an amazing bass, I'm still wondering how can yamaha make such light basses and lakies are rather "heavy". My teacher had a cheap yamaha bbg fretless he bought for 100€. It was a feather. And It sounded good, but not as good as my DJ.

Does this have something to do with the weight/tone relation of the wood? Are the good tonewoods they use heavier? I'd find that strange because a lot of more expensive basses are pretty light. Maybe it's because of smaller bodies, alltough the dj has a downsized body.

My Fender Jazz V weighs in at 9.7 lbs, my Carvin LB75AP Anniversary weighs 10 lbs. Both basses balance out very well.

Never weighed one....I now the heaviest have ever owned was my T 40 and right now MY SX ash bodied Jazz leads the way.

I look at it this way...the stuff we have to deal with to hold down the groove.....

it is one of the first ones produced, i have played it at every show for 14 years and kind of like it heavy as it does not move.
carvin ac-50....................8lbs.
like culture shock, little bit of a neck dive issue still a joy to play.

My Fender Jazz V weighs in at 9.7 lbs.

I'm gonna guess that my Squier Affinity Jazz V weighs about that. It feels really nice but it's definitley a change from my previous bass; an Ibanez GSR200.

My haeaviest ones range from 9-9.75lbs and thats between a Ric, MM Sterling and BC Rich.
