Played my PS5 at practice last night. Its official, Its my favorite bass. I have 2 Spectors and 2 US Fenders. The $150 Jackson kills them. Ive got to find an old Concert 5 string now !
The CBXV is sitting on my recliner awaiting an intonation & then jam tomorrow. Pics will follow the jam...after I'm sure it's staying.
1st impressions...it's easy to play, light, different. The neck's super thin, but it has a scarf joint for the headstock. :/ wasn't aware of that when ordering.
I'll play with the tones at the jam & see if it's any different than my Spector.

So I bought that 5-string two weeks ago with the EMG's and it just hasn't seemed right. I finally took the back off and wham! Two batteries???? Any advise?

So, they're running the pre at 18v? That's quite common, especially when the pickups are active, too.
You can wire it back as a 9V, if you want...but what's so wrong about the sound?
someone changed the guts, thats not OEM so its not gonna sound the same as the other one.

I have a je2000 but I need stock 5 string pickups. The sound I want just isn't there. I can't explain it.
To those of you with a CBX or a bass with a BEQ3 pre-amp, what do you use to get a cutting tone for your EQ? I used mine today for the first time and, while it's nice to play, the tone felt like it was just sitting in the mix instead of being discernible.
I love the look of Jackson basses but it's such a shame that they don't make a P/J model any more like the ones from the 80s. Surely they could introduce a second line of Concert basses with a P/J setup rather than basing the entire range that they make right now off of David Ellefson's basses (that's what it seems like they are doing anyway). Don't get me wrong, I love the guy's playing, and his basses look awesome but just having the one model, but with slightly different parts on it each time doesn't cover every customer's needs?
It's a shame Charvel stopped making basses as well. I know that they were basically the same instruments back in the 80s but just made with a different name on the headstock (essentially anyway!). One of the companies needs to go back and make those basses again!

Not sure if my CMG is the same pre amp but mine is really muffled sounding no matter what I do.
You could put a set of 35P/Js in them but I wish they had a passive version.
Hoping you guys can help with this since somewhat new to bass...
I have a JS2 I bought a few years ago. Something has seemed off recently and I notice there is a slight bow (~1/16") in the neck centered around the 10-12 frets.
Can this be fixed with a truss rod adjustment and can I perform this? Or is it beyond redemption?

Not sure if still there but the GC by me (Tonawanda NY) had a 5string CBX for like 300 bucks recently - I notice those seem popular on here...

sometimes the TR will handle that, sometimes not. You are the first person to say the JS neck messed up on them.
