hey everyone!

I've got something coming my way and I'm so excited that I had to post about it!

It's a custom Jaguar bass built for me by John Kallas.
The body is a maple Warmoth jaguar body that John heavily reshaped and finished in a beautiful transparent blueburst inspired by the Rickenbacker limited edition models in that color. The bridge is a brass hipshot A style bridge. Strap buttons are Schaller strap locks.

John also cut the parchment pickguard by hand, and filled/rerouted one of the pickup routs so that everything would fit neatly within the guard. Beautiful work!

The neck and middle pickups are roughly in the locations of a Rickenbacker 4003, and the bridge pickups is located in the same spot as a 70s azz bass bridge pickup. The pickups themselves are Lindy Fralin 51 split single coil pickups.

The neck is also Warmoth. Ebony on maple, with a matching blueburst headstock, finished fingerboard, and vintage style stainless steel frets. I'm pretty sure I ordered the body with a contoured neck heel, but honestly can't remember, haha. Tuners are hipshot ultralite lollipop style tuners.

The picture above gives a full layout of the functions of all of the knobs and switches

I've always really liked the 51 p-basses I've played, and I don't own any basses with those pickups, so I spec'd this out with the intention of going for something not entirely like what I already have (although it is heavily influenced by my Rickenbacker).

I've also always wanted a Jaguar shaped bass, but since Fender's offering is pretty much a Jazz bass, I had to do my own thing.

The original plan was to have the upper plate function the same as the Ric vintage tone cap, with the wheels being dedicated volume and tone knobs for the middle pickup, but in the name of going for something fresh, I went with this alternative that John presented.

I bet that middle and bridge in "series" will be epic :D

That's my favorite Big Al SSS setting.

I only played a Big Al very briefly, but I'm really looking forward to checking out the options that 3 pickups gives me.

Thanks man! Only thing I'd probably change would be binding on the neck (wasn't an option with stainless steel frets). That would be perfect, but I'm absolutely stunned with what John was able to do for me.

it was my pleasure working with you,and building this one up for you with the body, neck and many other parts that you sent me for it Paul.

when trying to determine and decide the best use of of the layout of a three pickup bass with the jaguar's controls layout, i just figured that one setting that i'd recommend is to have the middle and bridge pickups running in series. the setting does have quite a bit more output so having it's own volume and tone controls made the most sense to me, and the upper and lower controls are completely independent from each other, meaning that by flicking the upper switch you can instantly go from one tone to another.
