so the tapered part of the string isn't supposed to make contact with the saddle? :confused:

or is it that the mass is too low for there to be a good output for the pickup to pick up?
 
Looks like a single pickup to me as well. I don't see whats so weird about a fretless bass with a single bridge pickup and piezo's though. In fact I thought that is fairly "common." Maybe it's just an MTD thing...

Ditto. If there's a 2nd "pickup", it would be piezos bridge saddles (IMO).
