This is my most recent build. It's a prototype for my newest line of resonator basses. The Moonshine Resolectro bass.

I am working on getting a sound clip up. It's fully hollow. Uses a Kent Armstrong Lipstick and a piezo attached to the spyder. passive controls, though a Bartolini buffer/preamp is optional. This one uses a short scale(29 7'8")neck,has a great old school hollowbody thud. I like this scale, but I am building one with a 31 1/2" scale just to compare the difference in tone. Very cool photo. I have seen it before, possibly in a Fender book. I would love to find one of those! I have a two long scale versions in process: one bolt-on and one set-neck(fretless). It will be awhile before those are completed as I am working on the first run of the Resolectro short scale models. I will post photos when they are completed. Thanks to everyone for their comments.

Ooh ooh! I want one. I have gotten close to buying one of the cheapo resonator basses you see on Ebay now and then, but I don't like to buy junky stuff. The few Nationals I've seen were either not for sale, or priced like a new car. And there are a few middle-ground reso basses that have been produced over time, but they are hard to find and also hard to differentiate from the cheapos just based on appearances or vague seller descriptions. Yours looks like the real effin' deal, I love it!

First, I love what you are doing with the resonator. I might be very interested in a long scale version. Second, I thought you might enjoy seeing this photograph if you haven't already:

Man, I want one of these so badly. Moonshine, your bass looks very nice, do you have any plans or interest in making an all-acoustic reso with a huge body, like the one in this picture?

The Resolectro model came from my desire to pay homage to those great basses/guitars from the 50's/60's made in Neptune.N.J.(Resolectro,rythmes with...?). I have several old 60's Silvertone basses that I truly love and one day a few years back, inspiration struck me and I built a couple of instruments using the construction methods of said basses, but with closer attention to quality control(I use Masonite for the tops and backs and furniture grade pine for the rim and swamp ash for the neck and tail blocks or as a center section if it is going to be a semi hollow design,I have also used mahogany, alder and even walnut for the center section,I find that I prefer swamp ash) I built several bolt on neck electric guitars and basses before the reso models and am very pleased with the tonal results and have never experienced any problems with my design. I still am building the electric models, but now I am moving away from the traditional body styles to using my own designs. I am also in process of building a semi hollow, short scale bass with the same body shape as the Resolectro. It will be in the same style, using Hipshot hardware and one(two as an option) Darkstar pickups(most likely, still looking at other pickup options, but I love the Darkstars!). Here is a photo of a P- style bass that I have under construction now(this will most likely be the last of these,as I will be using my own body design on the future ones). This is going to be finished in coral pink. I will post photos of this when it is completed,as well as photos of the new designs(including the short scale semi hollow body model). I would also like to point out that all models are available in solid woods(in a number of combinations) as well. Please feel free to contact me @ www.moonshineguitars.com with any questions. Here is a photo of a prototype that I built a few years ago. It is a standard reso body shape, but it is 5 1'4" deep. It didn't work out that well acoustically, but sounds great plugged in(Bartolini mag. and both Fishman reso. and L.R.Baggs I beam piezos w/Bartolini active electronics). It is made entirely of flamed maple(walnut stringers on the five pc. neck). I still offer the standard depth resonator models(I have found that a mahogany body/neck with a spruce top to be the best sounding, acoustically. They seem to have more volume, compared to the standard ABG's) in addition to the Resolectro model. Moonshine. :bassist:
