Vintage soviet basses on the bay

i've played one of those and it is the worst instrument I have ever played in my live. where I live, these basses are not so rare and they are way cheaper, around 50 euro. Actually they are the cheapest basses you can get. the tone sucks, the action is too high... you cant get it lower, I don't know why the truss rod doesn't work right. you can see this on the last photo of the bass.

very interesting. clearly not worth the 400 bux (with shipping) that he wants for it

"in soviet russia, bass plays you"

When I was in my last year at school, we had a school trip to the Soviet Union (I was studying Russian) and at the time I was just starting to play bass and it was a big interest.

So we met several musicians and they were contantly bemoaning their lot - so to even be allowed to play simple pop songs - they had to undertake a university music qualification and get certified by the state!

No bands formed in garages!! ;)

So - only once you were qualified and registered with the state - were you actually allowed to buy an instrument - which would have been one of these crappy, soviet factory made things - made by the same workers who would be building domestic appliances etc. :p

These guys really hungered for anything western and their prize possession was a Neil Sedaka 45 - the only western-made, contemporary music they had access to - approved by the state!

On the other hand if you liked Classical - I was able to buy fantastic boxed sets of Tchaikovsky at very cheap prices!! :)

wow how interesting. once again goes to prove that all that "usa sucks, we're better" propaganda in the east is all a load of horse sh!t.

Well - it depends on how you look at it..?

So at the time in the west (UK,US etc.) there were many people unemployed, claiming benefits, on the breadline etc.

In the Soviet Union - there was no unemployment - you were given a job whether you liked it or not - everybody worked, nobody was poor and unemployed..:eyebrow:

Nobody was rich or even "well-off" apart from corrupt party officials maybe - but everybody had their place - but it may not have been the place they wanted!

I can see good and bad - no crime and no unemployment - great! :) No individuality or free expression, no choice - bad! :(

I kinda dig the vibe of that bass, but if it's as horrible as Dimitar says I guess I'll have to pass.

I've always had this weird curiosity about old Soviet stuff... I would be tempted to buy it just to hang on the wall... Maybe refinish in red and yellow or something. Might be neat!

Russia has a lot of crime and a lot of poverty and not much freedom. It sucks to be them. Socialism spreads poverty and destroys freedom and prosperity. Bummer heh? and they can't even get some cheap SX basses ... heck they freakin border china ...

i got to work some shows with a band from the czech republic, they were older, and had formed during dark years.... they told me all they used to listen to was smuggled in frank zappa and residents recordings.
insanely skilled players.
you can hear it in their stuff...

You did not read my posts carefully enough - I was not talking about Russia today - but rather about the Soviet Union many years ago - in fact the visit I was talking about was over 30 years ago !
