What do you all think of Pete's new idea for a Jazz Bass? I believe he will be starting production on a few of these in his next batch.

BTW, I believe he will be using his own Skjold/East Pre and his own pickups in these as well. The rest of the options will likely be pretty standard stuff.

Oh I should mention it was modded from a 70's jazz, including the bridge and pickup placements. The body has slighly slimer "hips" if you will, and a bit different curve on the back, but not much.

The horns are the same as a 70's jazz, but the slightly slimmer hips might give them a different outter contour.

Overall I like the body though a bit more access to the upper frets would be nice. I really don't like the headstock at all. It has a G&L look to it (which I can't stand) and it looks too long.

I can do the body as is but the headstock would be a deal breaker for me.

I really like his headstock. Thats my biggest problem with a lot of these boutique Jazz makers, I can't stand the head stock on most of them. Body seems decent enough, and as long as its using Pete's pickups I don't see these being a bad thing.

IT just seems that in the boutique jazz department there's SO much choice, sadowsky, valenti, nordy, LEJ, celinder, Atelier Z, Pensa, Alleva Copolla and the list goes on. If I were ever to get a Skjold it would likely be one of his sweet original designs.

i love it.

i'm pretty much a fender guy, and usually only like well known traditional body shapes (fender, gibson, ric, EBMM, G&L, epi), and i have considered a custom Skjold bass, but the modern body and headstock shape was always holding me back. Besides that, most of the Skjold basses i've played around Dallas sound great!

even though i like p bodies better, pete making a j-type could be the wrong move for my wallet.

the headstock is nice, very reverend. too bad reverend stopped making basses, they were cool.

is it going to be 35" or 34" for the 5? is there going to be a 24fret version?

if i'd pull the trigger on a custom, i'd rest easier giving my $$$ to a local guy who cares.

Pete called me after reading my post to discuss the headstock with me. After talking with him and now understanding what the eventual look will be I will now retract my initial thought of the headstock design. I can't wait to see what these basses will look like when finished.

Pete told me that the initial scale length will be 35" but he is contemplating offering a 34" scale length on these as well. All of the other Skjold options will be available which means these will be monster Jazz style basses.

I like that Pete is not trying to reinvent the wheel but offer a more traditional looking bass with his design, electronics and construction appointments with his name attached.

These should be killer basses! Thanks for the call Pete!!

It's kinda aimed at all the folks that like Pete's work, but prefer a more traditional look. With Pete's pickups and electronics, it will be an extremely versatile bass, but will be able to do that jazz thing well and of course looks-wise.

I believe they will be 22-fret (I could be wrong), and [edit]scale length question answered above[/edit]

The headstock screams Reverend, and the body shape is just okay. If the lower horn was angled downward a slight bit and the strap pin was placed on the bottom of the upperhorn, it would be killer ^_~

Also, the knob layout is too bland.

If the knobs were a bit more Elrick in design, it would look way cool.

I just wanted to clarify that this is just a mock up . The headstock has been changed slightly since this photo . The headstock might look longer because where it ends on the neck , but the nut is where the line is on the headstock . Not the end of the headstock . The length is the same as a jazz headstock and only slightly narrower . Also most of us are used to seeing that kind of headstock with the clover keys , which this will have . The body is changed very slightly from a 65 I had here . Mainly I removed the heel block giving greater access to the 21 frets .

It will be a 35" to start with . I will be utilizing my neck joint . All in all it will be my bass just more traditional in appearence . Think of the new Mustangs :D

Anyway that is what I'm going for , vintage vibe with modern appointments .
