your take on some woofers

As many of you guys might remember, I've been having problems with my cab.
The speakers are all gonna be replaced, not one single one in there is staying anywhere other than the trash. They're THAT bad.


Anyways, I've heard good things on here for the MCM speakers.
These to be exact:

Well, it'll be put into a Sonic 8x10, which IMHO is built as well as an Ampeg, its the same exact width and height, just maybe a few inches deeper. Anyways, I'm way more concerned about the specs of the speakers right now, not whether or not I should get an Ampeg or something, I SIMPLY DO NOT HAVE THE MONEY. Anyways, what do you guys think about these speakers? I'll be running an Ampeg SVT-IIp through a 700 watt Carver Preamp, and I need the capability to push all 700 watts if necessary, which I can not do now. I can't even push one watt, all the speakers shorted out or something. I don't wanna get them repaired, I want to replace all of them. Simply, for my budget, which doesn't have a price (not meaning I spend as much as I want, they're are some nice cabs I'd buy if that's the case) but has to be as cheap as it possibly can with the best results.

So, overall, are the speakers good? The Xmax, is it good, sensitivity, etc? I know the cab isn't that bad, when I originally bought it, it sounded really good. I need a good replacement for around this price.

You wire every two 10" speakers in series, then wire all sets together in parallel, creating a 4ohm load.

And i've yet to see a cab for $240 that doesn't have more problems than mine.

Is your cab ported? Those MCM woofers should be put in a ported box...they aren't well suited for sealed, ala Ampeg.

Going by specs, those look to be decent drivers on the cheap. They won't take much low bass content, though with 8 of them...

The Fs is a bit high, though it's a pretty "typical" 10. Plugging it into WinIsd, 1.5 cu ft and 50 Hz gives me a 66 Hz f3 and a 40 Hz f10.

For the price, I doubt you could find a better driver that the MCM. Better? Sure. For that price? I doubt it. Check out some of Bill Fitzmaurice's comments about them and similar drivers in this thread:

The specs look very respectable. I don't have an Ampeg 8x10 but from other comments that I've read, that cabinet doesn't have have deep fundamental response down to 40Hz either.

The specs are OK, but there are no SPL charts available for them, so what they'll do in the midrange is anybody's guess. For the price you probably won't find anything better.

There's some bad math on this picture

I don't care where you went to school 8+8 never = 4

But 8||8 = 4
(Eight in parallel with eight = 4)
Here is a formula that works for all (infinite) impedances in parallel.

(1/[(1/R1)+(1/R2)+(1/R...))]

Here is one for two drivers in parallel

(R1*R2)/(R1+R2)

Honestly, I didn't know the 8||8 formula. My bad, you can look at the diagram and see its parallel. I mean I'm no cab engineer, that's why I'm asking here.

What I'm doing is trying to get some interim drivers so this cab will get me through a few months. Basically, without that scientific mumbo jumbo, yay or nay?

Haha yeah, what I meant was I'm not too concerned if my "grammar" is correct, I just needed to get the gist of it down.

Wait, if its series/parallel, wouldn't that be an 8ohm cab, or is that just with 4 speaker cabinets? I remember reading all this stuff on guitar cab sites, and I think it was just based off of a 4x12.
