I got the specs. Using WinISD, looks like the 55-1740 (mcm) would have f3 right around 85.
Theres another one that looks sort of interesting, the 55-1300, its an aluminum cone thing, with a lower EBP, suggesting better closed bow performance. In WinISD, its got better response, granted with a bit of a hump around 80 hz.

I can relate to that. If money was no object you would have just bought whatever suits your fancy. I guess it comes down to do you need an 8x10 now (just for practice?) or is the possibility of an Ampeg Fridge soon enough that it would be worth just waiting for that, saving what you would spend on drivers for your current cabinet and putting that towards the Ampeg. If you really want to do something with your current cabinet, if can you quantify a budget for it, i.e. $300 max, $400 max, etc. That would help narrow down the choices, e.g. 8 inexpensive speakers, or 4 more expensive but better speakers as Bill suggests. Even if the performance is good with the 4 better speakers though, it may not be as attractive to a potential buyer when you decide to sell it. I won't bother to reiterate my suggestions on the drivers, you already have them.
