High End Cable (Laboga?)

Laboga cables are very good. Check Klotz cables too, they have a lifetime warranty.
Monster make good products but I prefer to favor European economy.
I also seriously dislike Monster as a company because of their dumb and aggressive policies. I won't buy anything from them.

Holy smokes. EU 45 is USD 60. Just my opinion, no instrument cable is worth 60 bucks. The only factors affecting the quality of a cable are:

1. Capacitance per unit length, and most cables are around 40 picofarads per foot.

2. Quality of shielding, but even most inexpensive cables are sufficiently shielded.

3. Ruggedness, which you get from most decent cable typse and Switchcraft or Neutrik plugs.

For 60 bucks, I would build 5 cables or buy 3 cables. Now I would have a lifetime supply of spares.

I too work an engineering capacity (pro audio for TV)
and have tested some of the mythical claims for
these cables on such rigs as the Audio Precision
System One - not a whole lotta "there" there....
Most of the selling pitch of the "boutique" cable companies
is lifted from a completely different area of technical application
and has no basis in fact with regard to audio signals.
What may be big issue stuff in the gigahertz range (two inch waves)
made out to be like it matters in wavelengths of several miles(audio)

But the emotional logic is powerful - if it cost THAT MUCH
it HAS to be better

A good cable has : Flexability, durability, solid reinforcment
where the plug and cable meet, high shield weave density,
low capacitance, and stays quiet even while being worked
(moved around) . Avoid molded end stuff (in most cases)
Learn to make your own! get yourself some Mogami like
Mogami Quad Mic cable W 2534 for cheap and some
high quality Switchcraft or Nuetrik ends

You will have - custom length,
super quality - an endless supply

Canare StarQuad can be made into great instrument and patch
wire as well - you can get it all over. Read this blurb for
an expanation of what "quad wire" is about.

The claims at the Laboga site for their products seem on level
at least - not like some of these companies.

"Oxygen free" is another ambigous claim...

Oddly enough, it isn't the freedom of oxygen in copper wire that makes any difference. The process of removing oxygen also removes the impurity of iron and it's this impurity that can cause the resistance to be slightly higher. The difference in resistance between copper wire and oxygen free copper wire is too small to be significant for speaker wiring. It can be considered to be ordinary copper wire as far as the recommended lengths of copper wire in the table. Oxygen free copper wire can be more expensive than ordinary copper wire.

I go out of my way to NOT ever buy anything with the Monster brand.

I've been slowly replacing all my cables with stuff from http://procablesnsound.com/

Really nice quality cables from some real nice people

Didn't someone say that Monster instrument cables have wider shafts which stretch out input jacks? I'd never buy Monster cables just because they are so full of it, but someone else might not want to screw up their jacks.


BTW, Proco cables are great, and they are cheap.

The German Sommer Spirit cable is very good kit, so is Klotz

Just get a couple of Whirlwind Leader cables they are good enough and cost about $12.00.
High end cable are far too overrated. Livewires are good too. Don't waste your money on $40 and $50 cables, it's ridiculous.

Could not agree more groucho. I also have a broadcast engineering background.

Just remember that if you want to get the full capability out of your Monster cables, that you have to upgrade the wires from your pickup to your input jack to Monster cables as well, which requires extensive routing.
