Micro POG samples inside (yes, it's true)

OK boys and girls, about time someone did this. Disclaimer: I will not be held responsible for any GAS caused by this post, so listen at your own risk.

For these trials I'm playing a Reverend 5L through a SABDDI into a Firebox interface and recording in Cubase. Fingerstyle unless where otherwise noted. Hope you like aimless noodling.

dry signal only, for reference:

For these next two samples I clicked on my favorite bass overdrive, the Reverend Drivetrain II.

dry full, octave up full (I switch to a pick halfway through this one):

Now for some real fun. The dry out of the POG goes to the PC, the effect out (octave up full, other knobs off) goes through a Little Big Muff to an Ampeg Reverberocket guitar amp and miced (played with a pick):

Same as the previous, but this time the dry out goes through the Drivetrain (with pick):

Hope you enjoyed this presentation. If you have any requests for me to try something else with it, I might be able to get around to it.

UPDATE

I think just the pog's regular mono signal into the chorus, would get very close. That would most likely emulate the pog's detuned settings, I hope.

ok, got around to your request. Here are some samples of the POG into a Boss CE-5, same setup as before otherwise, played with a pick. Oh and I also changed strings since the last samples.

All POG controls on full:

Dry signal taken out, up and down octaves full:

And because this setting reminded me somewhat of a Daft Punk song... pickups in series, dry and up octaves full, down octave 3 o'clock:

wow, I love how well thought out all your clips are to show off the options with the micro pog - great job!

I love the clip with the drivetrain distortion. Its exactly what I'm looking for in an octaver.

Jeeze, thanks alot. Now I just have to find a couple hundred more bucks...I swear, stupid TB and showing me all the cool stuff I'm missing out on....why did I ever come here?!?! Grrr....

jk, lol. I love this place.

Must...Have...Pog...........................................damm gas!

Thanks for the much anticipated clips. I love it! Cant wait to add one to my board. The up octave would sound so good with delay!

Good question! It gets the dry signal, so if you're using the guitar and bass amp setup the way to go is leave the POG on and have a mute switch before the guitar amp for when you want that part to turn off.
Well that's just stupid!
The whole point of being able to run the effect out separately is to be able to process the effected sound differently (whether through a guitar amp, special effect pedal, etc.). I would be willing to bet 98% of us are not going to be wanting our regular bass signal running through this special amp or processing when the pedal is supposed to be in bypass.
This is a bad design oversite. The Uni-Bass was smart enough to get this right.

The one thing the Uni-Bass missed was having the Modify switch (adds 5th up or 4th down for power chord) still function when in un-latched mode (with Main footswitch in bypass) so you could punch in momentary power chords without having an everpresent octave.

Looks like I may have my Micro-POG modified (if possible).

EDIT:
Just listened to the clips. Although my rant above is still valid, the sound is very, very convincing (much better than a Bass Whammy and actually in tune) and the tracking seems to be excellent (even down low). I will definately get one of these and make it work (modified or not). :D

I am so glad I purchased this within 5 minutes of seeing it on Musician's Friend's 'site... despite the "issues" I'm currently having with them :rollno: . I'm been running a "Virtual Coursed Bass" both live and on recordings since buying my Bass Whammy back in '95, and although I've always had occasional thoughts about picking up a physical 10-string (most likely the Dean Edge Hammer 10X) I always came to the conclusion that I'd never use a "bass" enough and that it wouldn't suit my needs, like dropping into the middle of a song with the effect, something you can't do with an entire bass. The POG was simply "too much", both in size and in capability as an effect for my needs. This, however, seems to be perfect, and I cannot wait for mine to arrive so it can be integrated into the pedalboard. :)

The samples are much appreciated, DHC! :D

Just bought the Micro POG on Friday and WOW! this unit rocks. I was able to simulate a distorted rhythm guitar type sound using an old Ibanez Bass distortion and chorus pedal. I will post samples next week from my upcoming Friday gig.
