I play metal and I play an Ibanez, so that's what I can recommend. It kind of depends what kind of metal you're playing too...if you're playing chug-a-lug metalcore, you can probably get away with just about anything, but if you're playing thrash or death or something, I'd lean towards the Ibanez or the ESP. There's a reason all the metal dudes play 'em.

I really don't know why metal players think that there are certain bits of gear that are better at metal than others. Seriously I got all my gear just by going out and deciding what felt best for me, and yes, it all is good for metal. Play all those basses, and buy the one you think sounds and feels best. It's that simple!

Go with Ibanez SR1500 or Hofner, or Rickenbacker Carvin LB70 is nice. Don't go cheap stuff. Life is too short to play junk guitars. You not going to live forever so start playing Expensive Guitars.

lol, serious? I own a MM Stingray ($2500AUD) and an Ibanez RD300 ($400AUD).
Both of them are fantastic instruments and I play them for equal amounts of time.

You might want to stop listening to that junk you call music and listen to classic rock, man. Life is too short to listen to junk. Go with Classic Rock. You will spit on what you listen to now. Try The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Creedence Clearwater Revival, AC/DC. You appear not to have good taste in music, man. You can change! Later, mon!

Do you have any idea how BORING acadaca is??? Or how boring it is to play. tnt for instance, is piss easy and anyone can play it, not everyone can play say... only ash remains by necrophagist. listento the song, the bass solo at the start is amazing

Now Now- each to their own!!!!!!!!! EVERYONE likes different stuff-thank the Lord!!!! Or thank whomever!!!
Just because a song's hard to play -don't make it good to play!!! & ppl aren't impressed simply coz U play lotsa notes... It's HOW U play those notes!!!!!!!!
Now U can play what EVER U please & as long as U R happy-thats what counts. Same with the bass!!!! ALL those basses U listed are nice instruments. I'm w/ above posts that say-which ever bass "speaks" to you the most. ie- feels & sounds the best to you!
From what I've heard CORT factory actually make alotta basses that many other factory's sell... They've always been underated basses.. & many are very nice!

IMHO IF U R gonna spend $1400 AUS... I'd go for a 2nd hand EB Music Man!!! Cant beat 'em for build & U find 'em on the 'bay etc.. for that price & less. Sound awesome for that type o' stuff!
Goodluck!

im not too keen on buying second hand basses, am i just being paranoid?

my teacher got his stingray second hand,... its definitely reliable as he plays every day and gigs with it every week in two bands pretty much all the time,... I say just make sure you get something cared for and try and get some history of it (ie has it been laying around for years etc)...

I am a plus one for ibanez (love my k5) BUT im also a sticker for the get whatever you feel comfortable playing,... for me its a 5 string with narrow spacing but choose what you want :) I like that ibanez have bartolini's on some models and elixirs come standard on most I think...

that said, I love ESP basses and the few that I have heard live I have totally loved the tone of them!

(hmmm and CrazyJayYeah13! beatles and AC DC versus insane chaos,... I will take the insane chaos every time ;) goes to watch the behind the scenes of the roadrunner united album... gives me a burst of inspiration everytime!) :bassist:

I think the bigger question isn't what kind of music you play, but what kind of tone you're looking for.

If you're looking to play something real grindy sounding, the bass you buy isn't going to make much of a difference since you put a bit of gain on your sound (depending on if you have a tube amp or not), or put a bit of distortion on your sound. For instance, I have that Meshuggah/Entombed/Grave sound, and it took me a while to find the right gear to do it, but it wasn't from the bass, it was from everything else.

One thing on a bass that contributes to that sound though, is EMG pickups, or having at least an EMG active preamp.

But, if you're looking for a really great clean tone, then I'd like to hear what you expect your clean tone to sound like.

Another thing to remember is that studio recordings tend to sound different than live, simply because an engineer adds his taste to the sound, and tweaks it a bit.

Life's too short to be narrow minded and clueless :eyebrow:
