Help ID this jazz bass ... No control plate ...

Hi a friend is selling me this bass, I saw it and I couldn't believe it! has no control plate, the pickguard is entirely covering that part too . . so I'll add thid pics for now and I hope You could help me out about whatjazz bass is...thanks guys.

I think that's a mid-80's MIM Fender.

If I remember correctly I think they were called Fender "Squier Series" basses instead of just being Squier basses...

Well, the headstock crearly says Made in USA, maybe a MIA neck on MIM body? the pickups are jazz bass . . .

Serial number on the neck?

Wouldn't be the first time someone swapped a neck on a body though.....Or even added a sticker.

I have a '95 MIM Jazz Standard with that configuration. One of the best playing basses I've owned.

Get a "non-artistic" shot of the headstock that shows the serial #.

Hmm, I remember the old import Jazzes wth one-piece pickguards, but those pickguards were single-layer white plastic, and they ahd the white plastic knobs. This looks like a W-B-W multi-layer pickguard and standard knobs, which makes me wonder if it isn't just a replacement pickguard on an otherwise standard MIA Jazz.

I really want one for my MIM Jazz, but I was told that, due to MIM inconsistencies, I'd have to trace the PG and control plate.

Back in the early 80's, USA Jazz basses had a one piece p/g. I've seem a bunch of them over the years.

I`m almost sure it`s a MIA Fender American Traditional. I`ve recently upgraded mine. It`s been my main gigging bass for several years now.

You should check the top of the headstock, it should say "American Traditional".
